Mafia BossDoechii was making music before TDE.
What It Is was a hit people probably just didnt realize it was same person.
Yeah she had gotten TikTok buzz off Yucky Blucky Fruitcake. It’s super Nicki-esque but it’s well-executed.
I think Persuasive was her first TDE single. It didn’t blow up but it caught my attention immediately and SZA hopped on the remix.
Then she dropped Crazy and I remember TDE fans were s***ting on her in the comments when the label shared the song. “What is this bullshit? We want Ab-Soul’s album” “Why don’t they sign lyricists anymore?” etc etc.
She dropped a few more singles that didn’t really catch traction (Stressed was nice tho and she did it on Colours) and then finally made some noise with What It Is.
It wasn’t until a year later when she was dropping all those visuals for album snippets like Nissan Altima and Bullfrog that she really became a mainstream name like that tho.

Doechii hate is corny. She was dropping singles after she got signed with all sorts of vibes and the TDE crowd was hating on her and the casual had yet to catch wind of her.
I always fw her and watched firsthand as the right audience caught on, and saw her double down on the styles that people responded well to. She’s not a plant. She was working her ass off dropping good quality singles and visuals and little freestyles and maintaining a social media presence and doing exactly what she was supposed to do. And it paid off.
Idgaf about the Anxiety song, but how are you gonna hate someone for a song they made years ago that happened to blow up now?
