She wasn’t a household name in 2022.
Her debut album dropped in 2024 but in 2022 she had FNF and tomorrow 2.
exactly. people said the same thing about 4batz last year. nobody likes it when an artist is shoved down their throats, especially if they're mediocre and don't live up to the hype (i cannot speak on doechii as i haven't heard much of her stuff).
it makes them reflexively turn against them, even if they're not really deserving of any hate.
ultimately hype trains always die out if there's no organic interest in keeping them moving, so we'll have to wait and see how doechii's career plays out. ice spice was called the people's princess two years ago, but we saw how long that lasted.

I know that brother but again, she wasn’t not a household name in 2022.
I haven’t listened to a single Tyla record besides the joint that went viral but I’m sure she doesn’t make the same music as Rihanna. So I don’t even really get the correlation.. because she’s light main and skinny? lol
that’s pretty much it
they don’t even make the same genre
Rihanna came into the game making pop-type dancehall
this what I mean by our talking heads don’t even take the time to educate themselves.
nigga heard an afrobeat, saw the b**** kinda resembles Rihanna and made up this story to be funny out of thin air with no musical a***ysis to back it up. and people gone take that s*** and use it against Tyla cause they take these niggas opinions seriously
Literally seen a clip of Mal claim the other day that label execs saw Rihanna wasn’t making anymore music, so they “created” Tyla.
Wasn't Tyla already a huge artist in South Africa?
Rihanna by comparison was a nobody that Jay-Z brought to the states.

The “shove down the throat” thing is my challenge. Unless you’re listening to top 40 radio all day, how exactly is any artist being pushed on you that you specifically don’t like?
See this a tale of two worlds. I don’t think I’ve consciously ever heard a song of this lady. I’ve heard about her cause I seen her discussed on my timeline for like feminist issues or artist healthcare or some s***. But music? Gun to my head I’m dying. But she’s apparently like the biggest thing outside of Sabrina Carpenter to white women atm.
Yeah it’s just the era that we’re in. If this were like, 2011 or something, she’d be inescapable for pretty much everyone.
I’m pretty sure her album has sold a smooth 60K every single week since like April lol. I could be wrong but I don’t think it’s left the top 10 in almost a year.

Honestly no clue. First song I heard was Water, and I originally thought that song was a gospel song for like 4 months until I seen the music video

yea she was already a known name in the amapiano world cause of her music/dancing on tiktok. she’s been getting developed for a while. just like Doechii, even her old videos still on her YouTube
First artist on here without a #1 or even a top 10 album lmao.
I was about to argue Reba but when i hit googles it humbled me i thought she only did tv lol
i think Tyla would take that statement offensively tbh
she’s really big on maintaining that she’s not trying to win over American audiences or conform to an American sound and is all about maintaining her SA pride and roots

reba a legend fr. i remember googling her a long time ago cause of that same logic n being humbled lol

Yeah water is not even her first song, just the one that crossed over to the states. She has an official thread on here that someone made years ago, she's been putting out music for a minute.
If I recall correctly, Rihanna wasn't making any music prior to Jay-Z discovering her. I think she just a pretty girl entering local beauty pageants in Barbados.

Reba a legend forreal I was only aware of her music in the 90s, during country music's commercial peak. That's how I first became aware of how big she was. But she really been in the game since like the mid-late 70s dominating in the genre and music in general

Dolly Parton, Reba, and Carrie Underwood are like...the ones when it comes to women in country music.
Dolly for the 60s and 70s, Reba bridges the gap and takes over for the 80s and 90s, Carrie bridges the gap and takes over for the 00s and 10s.

“Water is an African song” - Tyla
she’s not tryna impress Americans, the songs just that good
Rihanna was designed to impress American audiences
