section.80 is amazing and i love that tape dearly but they weren’t nominating it at the grammys

To be fair Grammys have changed a lot since then.

Karol G is one of the biggest artists in the world and she did a stadium tour in the US not too long ago. Her last album was very successful.

    one among many i guess

y'all see her display an incredible pen and voice across this insane range of song styles in a cohesive manner and still write it off as "half-baked"

you can literally see how the album transitions style-by-style, song-by-song for 19 songs without skipping a beat. her "half ideas" are ridiculously introspective.

I actually listened to it the week it dropped and there’s a handful of decent songs but for a mixtape from a developing artist who hasn’t even dropped their debut album to win a Grammy I feel like that mixtape should just be really monumental or something (not specifically sales, but really something that’s game changing and gonna be seen as a potential classic drop).

She really got by off the fact TDE got a lot of pull (factually let’s be real) and the nominations were weak for Rap Album this year in general.

I haven’t seen that much people say the mixtape as a body of work really is amazing. People praise her performing abilities and specific songs so far (Denial, Anxiety) but I ain’t seen nobody saying that mixtape was slapping front to back. It’s a 3/5 mixtape that shows potential for a great debut album and improvement to come

The Grammy nomination was not questionable stop it

No female rapper is dropping a mixtape with no hits and minimal sales prior and getting nominated AND performing without strings attached lol.

The game just not even set up for them to thrive with that small of a resume unless they got people behind them pulling strings

So you just brought up a completely unknown TDE artist to the public had a sit down interview with the Grammys and used that as evidence upcoming TDE artists don’t have Grammy connects?

You really think she earned this over Sabrina, Charli, and Chappell without some strings attached? I’m genuinely curious

I like her music more than everyone you named

So from just a musical aspect, Yes

And really that’s all that should matter

And you think she deserved this Billboard award too?

Obviously not which is why everyone is simultaneously passive aggressively scolding eachother while walking on eggshells

But also that begs the question of who deserves a “Billboard Music Award” at all. It’s not a real awards. It’s an industry sanctioned advertisement.
