i think Tyla would take that statement offensively tbh
she’s really big on maintaining that she’s not trying to win over American audiences or conform to an American sound and is all about maintaining her SA pride and roots
As a huge Tyla fan, I'm proud of my fellow countrywoman but she definitely catering towards the American audience. Can't blame her though, it's part of the game

!https://youtu.be/jVduVnNMBRg?si=KbcRc0PzyS608LT3just quoting your fellow countrywoman!
it’s takes like Mal’s and you posting a song like that which simply features an artist who got aware of her when Chris Brown brought her on tour and before water even fully blew up, that removes the context of why he’s even featured in the first place. it’s 2 friends making a remix
Have you felt any pressure to conform to a more American sound or style in any way?
People know how much I love my culture and where I’m from. So it’s never been something where I would even want to, because the source is in South Africa. I also feel like we are changing the way people see pop right now because “Water” is an African song. Afrobeats has a log drum sound and it’s in the Billboard Hot 100 with all pop songs. It’s amazing.

Oh, I didn't know she got a history with Travis like that

i think she’s just a creatively inspired artist looking to expand where afrobeats is (shoutout Rema. that futuristic s*** he’s on is crazy) and the song is just so good that it does sound palatable to American audiences
but I don’t think she stepped in the studio like “ight, we gotta rock American clubs with this album and it’s songs” lmao
KTT users think the know the ins and outs of the music industry simply because they post on a niche site
Some of yall don’t even like music !
Charli and Chappell both would have been good picks tbh
But I don't feel like doechii is a bad pick either
She had a big year and it was a breakout year which makes it feel more impactful
Idk why she gets so much hate
You know why

You’re saying it’s easier for dark skin women in the entertainment industry?
Music industry not entertainment industry and I wouldn't say easier but once they get that initial push nobodys gonna question if she belongs in the culture or not, actually their skin tone or race isn't gonna be in question at all, it's gonna be more about what controversial things she does or says but still probably wont get completely shut down. Black women just really like giving lightskin people a hard time ngl 😂
You might not think this matters but if you look at any spaces on social media where it's mainly black women they're usually the ones to try to stop lightskin black women from flourishing in music making it all about bs like hair texture or what their parents look like or if she can call herself black or not it's actually pretty f***ed up tbh smh
All I'm saying is dark skin women aren't gonna face the tyla or ice spice pushback from other black women obsessed with the whole who can call themselves black or not convo, I could be wrong but that's just my opinion just from what I've seen and heard from other black women as a black dude 🤷🏽♂️
