When you look at his channel he rarely reviews modern R&B albums unless they’re popular in music discussions

He doesn’t even have a separate playlist like he does for his Hip Hop and Pop reviews, but he does have playlists for Rock, Electronic, and Metal reviews

And he’s infamously known for giving poor or average reviews to commonly celebrated R&B albums unless they are critical darlings like Frank Ocean or D’Angelo or it’s a Classic R&B album

I think it’s important to notice Biases certain influential critics have with their music tastes because a lot of the rap albums that Fantano gives poor reviews usually have modern R&B elements in them (Drake for example). I don’t think it’s a coincidence that his favorite Drake album, an artist known for infusing R&B into his music, is a Rap mixtape with barely no R&B on it

Or Something like Swimming or The Divine Feminine by Mac Miller, with a lot of smooth R&B cuts that he simply boiled down to “sleepy” and “boring”

Fantano’s reviews are influential. He’s literally the most famous Critic in music. I don’t think he’s obligated to love modern R&B but he himself said he doesn’t review Classical music because of his lack of knowledge on that music.

Not every album that comes out has to be reviewed by one source. When it comes to R&B reviews, his videos garner the most attention on the discussion.
