I haven’t seen two of the movies listed. Also haven’t seen Forrest Gump in two decades but I can say I don’t get the comparison

Campion didn’t even win best picture so I’m not sure why they argued them

I can sorta see the Malick comparison, and maybe Power of the dog if you stretchhh…..but they lost me wit EEAO and Forrest Gump. Unless I’m missing something.

So it’s a lazy there will be blood

I need @Elric to make sense outta this

  • EEAAO is not a Forrest Gump.

Didn't see Nomadland. Zhao's movie The Rider evoked Malick's appreciation for landscapes. Her use of non-actors and her story sense were distinct though. She didn't use poetic narration to tie it together.

Haven't seen Power of the Dog. Campion def put in work on Top of the Lake. She's been a working director since the 80s.

Some Like It Hot isn't a top 5 Wilder to me, but the bar is very high for Wilder. Not sure which 1950s comedies he prefers. I doubt any.

So yeah, none of it is very compelling. Motivated by identity clearly. Oh, these movies aren't as good as some of the best movies ever made? Yeah, almost none are. It's a truism lol.

Forrest Gump definitely don’t make sense but I see how you could compare the other two. Calling em copys is so hyperbolic tho. It’s like calling EEAAO a Marvel film

Facts Jon we gotta make sense outta this nonsense

  • I don’t get any malick from nomadland lmao gotta be the most superficial comparison

  • Some Like it Hot is a golden masterpiece, this person must be dealt with

  • Nomadland is awful but not because it's kinda derivative of Malick on a superficial level

EEAAOO and power of the dog comparisons make zero sense, very trite criticism.

the random shot at some like it hot is crazy, one of Wilder's best (high bar)
