Meaning that they'll plan to drop CLB and Utopia on the same week and Drake will threaten to retire if Travis outsells him 1st week.

I think it would spark excitement and competition in hip hop again and it'll let Travis prove himself to be the new top dog in the rap game(if he wins.)

Plus, everyone will talk about it and choose sides for the battle. Fans, celebrities, rappers, McDonald's, etc.

    Thoughts?

I think instead of competing they should get together and make sicko mode 2

I think the 50/Ye battle was more meaningful than just a sales competition. It was a battle of ideals. Traditional gangster rap vs alternative avant garde hip-hop. Labels were watching that battle closely to see what style was more profitable. As soon as Ye won you saw the Kudi's, Drake's, Cole's, and Kendrick's of the world come in to focus and the more street oriented rappers took a backseat. It wasn't until this most recent generation that the streets came back into dominance via trap music (lil baby, gunna, 21, etc)

I say all that to say what would be the cultural relevance of a sales battle between travis scott and Drake? Just for the sake of doing it? Would be kinda wack imo

Drake doesn’t need to do gimmicks for sales

  • Without bundles, Travis doesn’t have a chance....but never doubt Travis. He’ll never stop FINESSINNNNNN

    Bundle-less Travis won't stand a chance

    Good point.

  • Dec 2, 2020

the billboard rule preventing artists from exploiting bundles to boost their sales ruined any chance of travis selling well for the foreseeable future, let alone compared to anyone big

  • Drake too superior for peasants

  • Dec 2, 2020

Travis is not getting anywhere close with sales especially without the use of bundles which he heavily relied on in 2018. Travis will get embarrassed royally if he tries to compete :

Travis would probably win, but because of bundles and playing the system

I don’t even think Travis with bundles could beat Drake on a drop

  • Dec 2, 2020

    No

  • We could use Scorpion vs ASTROWORLD as a comparison. Drake out sold Travis by 200,000 units and that was no gimmicks vs Travis going all out. Not even close.

Travis sales excluding bundles nowhere near comparable to Drake

Not to mention the highest streaming song on the album was carried by Drake

  • OP, this is a stupid thread. Moreso, I don't understand why it's still open.
