I was born in 98 my first consoles were the original Xbox and PlayStation 2. I remember being blown away by the variety of games and how original and creative the majority were. You had party games, extreme sports games, ww2 games futuristic games, etc. Nowadays it feels like the same bland generics games filled to the brim with micro transactions are always released. Smh

Games are way more expensive to make these days

With that big of an investment a lotta publishers don't wanna take bigger creative risks on AAA titles

I think those creative games still exist. They’re just mostly indie titles and are overshadowed by your AAA blockbuster games that just follow the same formula

yup. same can be said about all media really. it's the same reason why you get more lion king remakes and reboots of whatever 90s sitcom that's guaranteed to make a company money than you do new quality content.

those genres are having their time rn but there is still a lot of variety among all of the indie games that get released

You have to want to play good games to find them. That’s really what it comes down to.

This could be nitpicked within every generation though.

Fortnite literally has a creative mode

  • Price of game development raised so high that they basically just focus test everything to a point it's safe. A game that takes chances and fails could bankrupt a whole studio easily.

play more games off the beaten path, develop your own unique tastes and don't be afraid to take risks, and you'll find a lot of good s*** out there

Facts I got into a bunch of 2D games lately and theyre so much fun
If all you're playing are top of the line AAA stuff you'll get tired of the same mold soon enough
