The increase in quality from this to BTI is some of the craziest s*** I ever witnessed as a fan of music
That s*** is still insane to me, Donald not only became a completely different artist but an almost completely different person at damn near 30 years old
Don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone change that drastically at that age
I feel the same way, as ass as camp is looking back it definitely helped me work through some identity issues
if we’re talking as a piece of art, Camp (for better or worse) is probably one of the most honest rap albums of all time, and one of the few mainstream albums from a unique black perspective such as his, and in a way I think it’s actually notable and somewhat important because of that. People itt have noted how it helped them thru s*** in middle school bc they we’re going through the same s*** and there aren’t many albums detailing the mental racial struggle that Gambino was going thru
that being said, dude was nearly 30 dropping diet Lil Wayne bars and misogynisticallly reminiscing on high school bullies and racial discrimination (from like 15+ years ago at certain points) - It’s a corny album that hasn’t aged well. In interviews Donald has said that that’s partially the point, that it sounds like an album he would’ve liked @ 13, but that doesn’t absolve it of it’s problems lol . Fascinating project, but outside of Outside, Letter Home (those Ludwig strings
) LES, That Power, and Bonfire solely for nostalgia, it’s just so flawed and hard to listen to at points
I loved that s*** when I was like 13
It just aged like garbage
Hate to say it but BTI didn’t even age the greatest at least we have Kauai, AML, and 3.15.20
I used to love it more when I first stanning Donald back in 2014-2015. Camp is mostly a fun album to listen to front and back.

Yeah bro, you should've kept this in the drafts.
When I was younger I loved this album a lot, I see it for what it is now, but part of me will always have a lil special spot in like the attic of my heart
I found it a LITTLE bit too late. Like if I was 12 and listening to it I would have loved it because of what he talks about (mostly being black but not being into traditionally “black things”) but by the time I listened I was 14 and already getting more confident in who I was so I just ain’t relate like that no mo
Yes, but EP (Early 2011) and Culdesac (Mid 2010) are much better Gambino projects from that era. I like Camp for what it was in my youth. He came into his own as a rapper in 2012 with ROYALTY.
i honest to god could not stand this album at all when it came out
now That Power is pretty good still corny tho

If you go back and listen to BTI, at least half of it is camp tiers of cringe. And I say that as someone who at one point thought it was one of the best albums oat
