Cause its gettin more evident by the hour that its more about politics, hype and cash than the art itself. s***tiest bubble gum shows getting 100℅ rates in rotten tomatoes just because they pushing gen-yxz neo liberal friendly agendas and because netflix and these other streaming services have them on payroll. Its a shame.

Yes, because Film Criticism doesn't stop at what's good and what's bad.

No I’ve never trusted critics in any medium. There’s quite a few movies that have bad reviews that I like

  • May 10, 2020

Yes. I follow critics who share similar interest as me. I f*** with a lot of the critics over at filmstage.com.

some of y’all are so weird about critics man lmfao. they’re not trying to tell you what to watch/listen to, they’re literally just recommending the s*** they like so people don’t have to spend time sorting through a bunch of s*** they might not like to get to the good stuff.

Apparently this is too deep of a concept for OP to grasp.

Also, 2020 and he still has no idea how the rottentomatoes meter works

it’s more about the basis of why they recommend things, but you got a point. op is saying that alignment with the show or
film’s agendas set the standard for the how the critic perceives the quality

  • May 10, 2020

you a loser if you follow critics hehe

  • May 10, 2020

I used to put way more merit in metacritic than I do now.

Now i just trust my own opinion because I know what I like and would be open to watching/listening to.

  • May 10, 2020

if its not criterion i dont want it!

  • May 10, 2020

not really, art is subjective anyways. better than critics is to find communities or websites with similar tastes and follow their recommendations. though there are a few critics, like Alan Sepinwall for TV, whose taste I trust

  • May 10, 2020

it's really my own thing and i can recommend what i like or others consideration

  • May 10, 2020

    It’s all subjective

A bunch of critics absolutely hating a movie has never meant you can’t like it or it won’t be good for you. They’re just people with opinions too there’s no trust that should be lent to them like that. It’s just journalism

Sadly this applies to way too many fans. Prob a majority of rotten tomatoes followers tbh

If you read it purely in a black and white/ good or bad way then you’re always going to be disappointed because sometimes critics won’t agree with your opinions.

Imo while there might be some evidence to support your points, at the end of the day when you try to point out agendas and conspiracies everywhere, you’re just trying to find excuses as to why your own opinions are objectively correct, even tho this is obviously not the case.

I don’t see the point in paying attention to the score given, but it makes sense to pick out certain parts of reviews - if a reviewer says an album is similar to another album I really like, even if they’re making the point that it’s s***, it seems worthwhile for me to check it out

  • May 10, 2020

Depends on the critic. Plus I like what I like regardless of what the critics think

sure, Culture industry is in full swing but it has often been the case with popular art. Especially when tons of money is in play.

I do trust critics but only if I feel that they are knowledgeable in that field of art and try not to let political or monetary biases get in their way.

Sure, there is always a theory of epistemology and aesthetic in general behind everyone's perception of art but once this discussion starts many critics are already off the table for me.

exactly! align with the critics who provide an objective basis. unless the director consistently lacks representation, or completely fumbles representing a certain body of our population, i think those discussions should be had in interviews, forums, articles, exposees and kept out of reviews.

Lol I didn't really like this one so much but they way a lot of critics shat on Man of Steel I thought really affected the public opinion of it. It still is my favorite comic book movie to this day.

I think the critics ruined DC cause they affected public opinion. After man of steel and BvS it was already being labelled too dark (I mean that's why I f***ing love dc) so the studio thought it wise to imitate marvel and go light and comedy
