Mega hits are pretty rare so I’m not really getting the point of this thread
Op and the great divine and j Cole avy
Been arguing in sales thread for 3 weeks bout random useless s***
And he's been fighting alone prob getting cooked
So he wants some validation from outside the sales thread cuz he def won't win there
Basically it

Tootsie Slide was his last truly global hit that appealed to non-rap fans.
His hits from 2021 and onward are either very rap oriented or they're hybrid songs that didn't really cross over as much as they should've(e.g. many songs off of HNVM).
Doja, and to a lesser extent, Jack, are the only rappers churning out true crossover hits these days.
Way 2 Sexy, Girls Want Girls, Slime U Out, FPS, Rich Flex, Knife Talk, Jimmy Cooks, and What's Next don't have anywhere near the staying power or crossover appeal as Drake's 2010's hits.
But this applies to many rappers in general.
The current state of things is megahits are far and few between because monoculture is dying and we move on fast from almost every song
There have been close to 0 "mega hits" since 2020 if we being honest
Check all time adjusted chart points for some of these songs if you wanna see what a real mega hit looks like
That’s just not true, there have been a good amount of mega-hit songs since 2020. I listed some in OP. Those are songs where it feels like everyone knows them and they’re inescapable
You can't quantify mega hit because it is perception based.
Unless you name every channel music is consumed in and put a number on it. But even that can't be done because how would you measure spins at clubs or parties.
‘Drake is a pop artist’
focusses on rap and stops making pop joints
‘Drake pen declined. He hasnt had a mega hit in ages. He should make pop’
You applying quotes to people that never said that. Quote me next time.
FATD definitely one of his weakest pen wise.
@666 that's not versace.
not him at all..
Jimmy cooks, Life is Good and Wait for u come to mind. They were hits but can’t be compared the ones mentioned by op.

Na Life is Good is Diamond certified, it's a big as almost any song OP listed

@dreamville the ghost i was talking about btw, im sure you knew that though 😊

Fair enough. But the actual impact of that song compared to One Dance, Gods Plan, Work, In My feelings, Nice for what, Sicko mode pale in comparison. Not even hotline bling and that went no.2
Drake has dominated the single format to the point where I feel he doesn’t put that much effort in. He’s in rarified air in terms of not relying on a single to promote his album. He is the single.

🥴
Life is Good, Laugh Now Cry Later, Knife Talk, Wait for U, and maybe Jimmy Cooks/Popstar/Greece depending how you look at if

I mean I guess but he probably still needs a big single to get over the hump and do CLB numbers as opposed to FATD numbers. FATD is probably the floor of what Drake can do sales wise.
Was a hit
Not a mega tho
Nah covid kinda pushed it to mega hit status since the song stayed very alive for the whole next year until CLB dropped

How can you say this so matter of factly? That music video was running social media for months

That music video was being boosted by suspect YouTube Autoplay. It would automatically play next after literally every single video anyone would watch, I’m not even exaggerating

Still doesn’t take away from the initial impact when it dropped and the flurry of memes that came out of which boosted his hype even greater and had everyone paying attention to when he dropped Laugh Now Cry Later that summer. I remember 2020/2021 very vividly and I heard Drake’s name a lot and it was off the strength of those 2 songs (plus the Baby feature and his Lemon Pepper verse) and why CLB was so highly anticipated

Fair, I’m just saying the overall numbers of Life is Good are very very suspect when you realize how much YouTube factors into it
