im blanking on the full story going on in GKMC but wasnt Swimming Pools all about peer pressure & how, low-key you shouldn't drink? Or am I missing something

seems like between swimming pools & u( which I do find strangely interesting as a song), kendrick's not a big fan of booze though. Why make a " don't give into peer pressure" song and not a " let's get f***ed up and have fun, party, and enjoy it" song.

It is but on the surface it's very much a drinking song and under it and with the narrative of the album it's actually an anti-drinking song. Its similar to Hey Ya. Pretty sure this is why the third verse isn't on the radio version

It never quite made sense to me why dude felt like he had to dress up his anti-drinking song as a radio hit(unless there was some A&R, behind the scenes s*** at play), like, if youre anti-alcohol and want ppl to know the dangers or whatever, just point blank put it out there and let people take it in how they want.

BDKMV is basically Control without mentioning rappers' names but people just hear that hook and be like "Bitch don't kill my vibe! ". It's a common thing with Kendrick. Plus Swimming Pools serves a narrative purpose in the album, teenage Kendrick didn't realize the dangers of it and wasn't anti-alcohol

Swimming pools is pretty depressing compared to actual drinking songs tho. I love Swimming Pools regardless of it but I never really seen it as a drinking song but more of a story about the evils of drinking when you’re around the wrong people or in a dark head space

I get the narrative push for the concept of the album, I just kinda wish he either a) left it off the album or b) made it like a true drinking song. Maybe it's anecdotal evidence on my end, but, IDK one person IRL who was like " Guys I hated all those Friday and Saturday nights in high school/college that I got f***ed up"
