I don’t see this talked about here at all

…Like I’m not even sure it’s so much that he’s just gotten older

I think it’s the way his voice is mixed now

Like the auto tune is way more noticeable prob on purpose by design due to where current music has gone
His highs are boosted up and he almost has no low end
Much more of a dry vocal I guess

    Thoughts?

I feel like you can say this about other artistes. Everybody's vocals sound much cleaner compared to when they just started. Kendrick, Cole, Abel, Ye etc

his voice changed with Dreams Money Can Buy. best change he made in his career

  • Jan 13, 2022

Huh? Money to blow, young money era etc. Drake had way more autotune

What recent songs are u talking about?

  • Jan 13, 2022

Yeah definitely. That’s why I always say the old Drake will never come back to the people asking for it because he literally doesn’t even sound the same anymore

His voice used to have a bit of nasal to it. Started hearing less nasally vocals around NWTS era. He’s got a lot more bass to his voice now. Delivery is a lot more confident and casual. Doesn’t even sound like he’s rapping sometimes, his tone is a lot more conversational

Drakes voice just got deeper, like most artists do at some point.

I believe the shift happened between IYRTITL- VIEWS.

Although I also think Drake leans into it. When he wants to sound like his older s***, he bring it back. His verse on Seeing Green sound straight out of 2012/2013.

He also for some reason turned the autotune up on Scorpion and didn’t look back.

It definitely happened in that time frame and then he went all the way in with it on Scorpion

That's how my dad used to describe Drake's voice back in the day "nasally"

It's def different now for sure

    Yeah it really was lol
He used to kind of rap in a southern slang especially in the early days with Wayne. I think that was part of the reason he had that nasal, as well as his voice just maturing. I think he got out of that southern slang delivery and just started rapping more like how he would talk to you. It was slow development but to me became very evident in NWTS-IYRTITL

I mean everyone's voice changes over time

  • Jan 13, 2022

I think his new voice fits really well for trap music but for rapping tracks, I think I prefer his older voice at around 2011-2013. And i don’t even think it’s nostalgia because sometimes I discover features/tracks I’ve never heard of from that era, and just think it sounds better to me personally.
