I’m watching this movie for like the 100th time, and I still love it and I get it’s a movie but the way the poor family infiltrates the rich family to get jobs seems a little too convenient and eye rolling at times. Anyone else agree? (More so with the mom and dad)

I know the Rich mom is suppose to be “simple” but it seems like a plot device to make the schemes more believable that it would only work on her.

Idk it just seems hard to believe that a family struggling to get jobs all sudden just get good jobs 1 after the other like it’s nothing. Entertaining yes. Especially since it all goes to s*** at the midpoint. But the 1st half of the movie is a little ehh the more I watch it.

    Thoughts?

Guess what? A lot of good films rely on unrealistic s***. I mean who the f*** heard Charles Foster Kane whisper “Rosebud”? Nobody was in the room when he died. But “Citizen Kane” is still a masterpiece. Remember “Vertigo”? The plot is actually stupid as f***. But it’s a masterpiece. “Parasite” has an unrealistic plot but it’s a very good film, focus on its critique of American soft power and capitalism.

What does this response have to do with anything? I mentioned that “I know it’s a movie” and also “I still love the film”.....I’m just seeing if anyone else agrees the unrealism in the first half is stretched pretty far

i think its goofiness works for it. the movie doesn't feel like its trying to be super grounded/plausible

the whole thing feels like a tall tale or like an urban legend almost

Word word. My critique of this is more so about the dad and mom getting jobs.

Like the rich dad just coincidentally found ol girls panties in the car leading him to fire his driver? Like she knew the outcome would happen exactly like that

And the whole housekeeper that’s been there longer than the rich family just gonna get fired cus this new nigga says she got TB? Lmaooo you not even gonna ask her?

Everything else is great. Even small scenes like the little boy smelling the mom and dad. But those two scenes I mentioned was a little eye rolling

oh no for sure the panties to firing scene on my first watch had me like "oookkkkaayy" but nah that TB scene is flawless. i was dying during that scene it plays out so perfectly. the dads selfie

but hey sometimes stories just work better when things go to plan i guess!

I like the creativity of the TB scene, especially with her being allergic to peaches. I was just confused on why she got fired so easily when she’s been in the house the longest.

And yeah man the driver being fired deff could of been improved on.

But I can look at it as “As easy as they got it, they lost it even easier”

So maybe that’s the dynamic that while it was super easy for them to get the jobs, all it took was 1 night to f*** it all up.

one of the most contrived films I have seen in recent memory

Its ridiculousness would've maybe sat better with me if they didn't try to make me sympathize with these main characters and make me feel sorry for them at the end. Its themes on capitalism and the wealth gap also just kind of ring hollow when they essentially make the main family some f***in world class spies and the rich family a bunch of simpletons who embody 1940s esque sexist stereotypes (the mom is a ditsy housewife and the daughter is just a stupid h**** schoolgirl). Its very regressive and Bong falls for typical Hollywood tactics (honestly makes me feel he made this movie to get into favor with them, the HBO partnership is telling also) in how he tries to turn poverty into entertainment.

I think what I mostly like about the movie is the level of details with the symbolisms and Easter eggs.

But I think from a standard viewing point some parts may be a little overhyped

Your problem seems like one of the least outlandish parts of a movie that doesn't shy away from being outlandish

I don't see why it would lessen your viewing experience unless you took the movie for a tone it wasn't trying to present

Hot take but Vertigo is pretty mediocre tbh

I do have to give it props in terms of fantastic production design and yeah I do agree some of the symbolism is very interesting (especially with what he does with the vertical aesthetic of the film)

But yeah it always bothers me when people say this is like the Citizen Kane or 2001 of our generation or some s***. I do think it has some unique ideas at a time where it seems like creativity is dead, but come on lmao
