Tyler did that to himself by putting “produced written and arranged by Tyler” and after years of s***ting on sampling and being the “chords” guy

I love sampling but even I kind of feel a way about it. The sampling isn’t very creative and he kind of passes it off as original if you didn’t know better.

CMIYGL is even worse, the fact he was credited as the sole producer for Lumberjack is a crime, and most of his fans don’t know where the beat came from they think Tyler made it, because again he put “produced arranged written” by himself which just isn’t accurate

    yeah exactly

i dont even think there's anything wrong with covers of songs or really gratuitous sample use. the part that bugs me is how it's sort of passed off as tyler's original creation with like the most minimal acknowledgement of the og songs as possible

Yeah Tyler just made a speech about how his fans should do the research into the genre, he really should’ve made more effort to acknowledge the lumberjack sample. That was his single, it doesn’t make sense for him to not put that sample and reference point front and center

That too, he should’ve made Instagram posts or tweets showing those samples to put people on to the reference points and what he was doing at the very least

Why would they when "Black" was stamped on us in the New World?

Many Europeans don't consider themselves "White" either because that's also a New World concept and Koreans and Japanese don't even see each other as the same.

Ya'll gotta remember there's a whole world out there outside of the U.S. That said, Africans in America consider themselves "Black" and are categorized as such.

Even in africa they recognize that they're black tbh, although to a bit lesser of an extent for obvious reasons

I'm waiting for the day a Twitter thread about Tyler and Gambino's lyrics really catches steam Not that I dislike either of them or their music, I just want to see how the corporations and big names behind them would react

They already tried that last year with Tyler and it went nowhere. We had a thread on it too.

From someone on Quora recounting meeting Tyler:

“I don't know him on a personal level. But I met him at a pizza place after an Odd Future concert in Philly. He seemed really shy when my friend and I approached him and Syd and complimented the great show. Syd did all the talking and was really animated, but Tyler was kinda stand offish. But he perked up when I mentioned I was Nigerian. His exact words "My deadbeat ni*gerass dad is Nigerian. That's why I'm so f***in weird lookin." “

He’s come a long way for sure with embracing his Nigerian roots, but then again it’s harder cause the person who gave him those roots was never around to really put him on.

Read that in his deep ass voice

Yeah he def said that s***

No bc his dad was a deadbeat and he doesn't exactly seem like the type to care for connecting with his african roots

I mean I'm not gonna fault him for not wanting to reconnect with a deadbeat father. regardless of his father's ethnicity

  • Scratchin Mamba

It's so funny bc his fanbase today is exactly the types who would cancel him over that s*** lmao i wonder if they just don't know about it

They don’t care at the moment

When they don’t think he’s cool anymore they’ll try again

It’ll be similar to Brockhampton but Tyler is Tyler so it won’t really work

“Yea I never liked Tyler he’s weird asf and his music isn’t that good”

It makes sense that he doesn’t acknowledge his Nigerian heritage, it’s not like he grew up around it. He grew up a black American kid, but at least he acknowledges it a bit more now
