And Drake is at a similar point in his career:
You can also make a comparison to Kingdom Come by Jay Z (he was 36 years old, with 11 projects and 10 years in the game).
At this point in their careers, both Nas and Jay Z started making 'grown man music', reflecting on fatherhood and middle age while trying to act as a mentor to younger generations. Drake doesn't seem interested in doing the same.
Why do you think this is the case? And does an artist's music have to 'grow up' as they get older?
People will point out rappers like Juicy J, 2 Chainz or Future who are still making 'young person' music as they reach middle age, and are reasonably good at it, but Drake is a different kind of artist. He prides himself on being emotionally honest and down-to-earth (whether you think that's true or not). It hurts his image and his music when he doesn't talk about what he is actually living through. He's been retreating into the mob boss andrew tate persona because he doesn't want to deal with the reality of being a 36 year old dad and that's why his last few albums suck
We’ll see in 3 years
drek bad
it’s wild how much younger he feels than them when they were this age
when wayne was 36 he dropped Carter V
Future still making the same music he started making and it sounds good so who cares? Let these rappers lean on their strengths and tune in to the stuff you prefer.
He'll probably get there once he hits his 40s. He had a big emphasis on performing old songs this year on tour and talking about retirement in the Yachty interview

You think he might do what Jay Z did and retire only to come back in a few years with more mature music? I can see that. Especially with the volume of music he is releasing atm, that's not tenable in the long run

Yeah I think this is thing that’s mostly worth noting tbh
Super interesting

Yeah I think he'll end up doing more music like Middle Of The Ocean and Weston Road Flows as he gets older.
He hasn't really dived into fashion or acting heavily at all really. So music is still his primary focus at least for right now
That’s crazy OP but Drake is at a similar point in his career:
Life is Good was Nas's 13th major project with 18 years in the game.
FATD is Drake's 16th major project with 17 years in the game.
You can also make a comparison to Kingdom Come by Jay Z (he was 36 years old, with 11 projects and 10 years in the game).

Drake doesn't have to change to make enjoyable music, but I would be interested in what "grown man rap" would sound like coming from Drake. I think he could be really good at it, especially over some of his more contemplative beat choices.
The thing is, by all accounts, it doesn't seem like he's living that life. He's still very much a bachelor going his own way and he's not in the position to make albums like Life Is Good, so he shouldn't try until he's at that point. Right now, he would be writing about a life he doesn't live and it wouldn't resonate.
I think drake learned from them a little bit. he doesn’t want to make a Kingdom come and alienate people, if you think about it jay and Nas almost boxed themselves in a little bit by “growing up” and lost some of the fun and magic
Like if jay didn’t do the whole retirement and come back as an elderly business man thing, he probably could’ve stayed convincingly young-ish like drake is for longer. There’s something to be said for that tbh as far as extending a run
Life is Good is a great late career album but I don’t think it’s necessarily something drake should aspire to at this point
it’s wild how much younger he feels than them when they were this age

I thought about this, but is that really true or were we all just too young?
Drake got all of the mature s*** out of his system early and was ready to just start having fun by the time WATTBA rolled around
Clearly drake was that nerdy Jewish kid growing up and didnt really get the love he wanted from the black community but he was obsessed with the culture. He had amazing natural talent and eventually blows up. Now he's accepted by the black community and he's loving it.
He ain't tryna settle down and become a boring nas/jay z type figure in the game. He's living his dreams. Lil Aubrey inside him is smiling ear to ear whenever Jim Jones calls him the goat. He worked for it, he deserves to enjoy it
Ok op but Jesus died at age thirty-three, there's thirty-three shots
From twin Glocks, there's sixteen apiece, that's thirty-two
Which means one of my guns was holdin' seventeen
Twenty-seven hit your crew, six went into you
