Scorpion is that and nothing wrong with that..
I mean Scorpion has a lot of diff styles, not just pop rap. Plus how does it being pop rap even make it low effort? it's weird yall on here act like making catchy music is easy, it's hard as f***, hence why there's barely any artists who've been able to do it consistently for a long period of time
Don't care. Kanye is 44. I'm happy he gave us as much good music as he could muster, even if it is "fat" and doesn't fit sonically on the project. We'll be wishing he gave us more music in 5 years when he's properly washed.
I’m just like “ if it’s filler then delete the songs or shut up “
it sounds incredible but there is absolutely no way 2mins 30s of no vocals at all is completely vital. they can cut 1m off that and have the same effect
haha yeah i feel you you're not wrong.
Damn Wu-Tang Forever and Life After Death are excluded as classics now
Yeah but those albums are a rare exception to the rule tho, not many rap albums that are bloated with 18+ songs are considered classic most of the time

You know what bothers me the most with the Scorpion talk ? It might be the fact that we all can feel that Drake wasn't really proud of it hence the long hiatus he took for CLB knowing he now has a chip on his shoulder but yet and still his fans are capping for it like his main creator didn't show signs that he knew that it wasn't that good
the whole "build your own playlist" argument is lame and pointless. obviously you can manipulate music however you want in this day and age. but some people care to discuss art as a whole, in the exact way it was presented by the artist. because it was presented that way for a reason. if there's five s***ty scenes in a film but the rest is fire, i'm not disregarding and fast forwarding the scenes i don't like. the art would be incomplete.

Haha I was just f***ing with you I agree with what you're saying

There's nothing wrong with throwing fat on a side project for the fans or something, but if I'm to judge a project I'm judging it off everything and some things it truly could live without.
Quality over quantity always.
i don’t think donda is as bloated as it seems
4 songs are bonus tracks, and there are two skits
so there’s 23 tracks, 21 minus the skits
taking that into account, it’s almost as long as CD and LR, just a few minutes longer

Albums ain't a supermarket you give us an album you give us an ALBUM from A to Z the whole trend of turning milquetoast albums into "playlists" is just the new excuse fans found to justify bad music

Some of us prefer to discuss the artist's work as presented while also curating an enjoyable experience for ourselves.
The best of both worlds

Sure, you can judge the project for the fat. I'm just saying that Ye is at a point in his career where I need to add context to any evaluation of his work. I don't wanna take s*** for granted. It's like how LeBron is still an MVP finalist nowadays despite having more flaws in his game.
i actually did build a playlist and cut it down to 14 tracks, but deleted it and went back to the full album. it really does actually all fit in place when it finally “connects” with you

right on. it's awesome that we have the ability to do it.
What opinion change are you waiting for? It's always going to be a fact that it could do with a fat trim, but it's not a bad project.

Nah, it really doesn't. I've tried out playlists sorting them between like rap collabs and songs that deal with Kanye's personal life. Production all over the place. Trying to sort by production is tough with Jail (WTT), Believe What I Say (TCD), God Breathed (YZS), and JIK stuff. Hell, like 5 songs on here only make sense as an intro or outro. Then you look at the songs themselves and sometimes the mood of the chorus won't match the subject of the verses.
Ended up just making one playlist for the rap collabs and one fitting together the songs calling back his different eras with the songs about Kim and his mother. Best I've got so far.
Without the bonus tracks, Donda is about an hour and 26 minutes. Not too bad considering JIK and ye length.
But yeah he could of done without tell the vision, junya, ok ok and maybe jonah, and then shave 2 minutes off god breathed. And add the tracks he left off on a deluxe or sum
Donda just showed me that the same niggas b****ing about album length will completely ignore it if an artist they like drops something even longer.

idk i think it does tbh
really just depends on how you interpret it
for one, a lot of the tracks have organs, and most of the tracks have the same drums (minus “off the grid” which i actually think would have been better as a one-off single like “all day”). so sonically it seems different at first, but a lot of similar elements are there
secondly, and it’ll be hard for me to explain cause i’m still trying to put my ideas into words, but….
Donda is almost like a concept album about him in some makeshift underground questionable church (kind of like the church in Saints Row 1 if you ever played that) trying to channel / summon the spirit of his mother
the intro track with Donda being repeated over and over in not by accident. there is a lot of talk about repetition in religion about how it can have healing powers, or manifest things you want to happen
the first few tracks which are harder and darker are like him summoning the Donda army - so basically, Donda is not only his mother, but his squad of protection (hence all the features)
the songs up until the Donda skit represent either dark or sinful themes for the most part, up until right before the skit where he comes to acceptance and repentance (24, remote control, hell, etc)
then during the Donda skit she finally is summoned (“it feels good to be home” / “i thank you for your support”)
and that’s when the album takes a smoother turn - mission completed.
even tell the vision kind of makes sense. it’s like a chaotic ascendence into heaven (“we made it”/“i thank god that we made it”)
