WESLEYS THEORYI don’t really agree with that statement. Ye has had religious themes in his music before and some of it was wonderful. But it went from Ye getting introspective about his religion to him becoming a devout Christian trying to convert everyone. Way to preachy. The execution just wasn’t there.
Yeah, it was preachy, def too corny, and he failed in balancing his ego and the selflessness of making an album "for god" as he was talking about. Plenty of issues there. But a lot of people were against the religious angle from the beginning, which is weird to me considering how much of his earlier music is based in that. Ultimately the album didn't do enough to fix that apprehension.

Terrible f***ing release. Atleast Ye came out the day he said it would.

But whether you think it's mid or not, that's fine, I get it, I'm saying that even if it was a great christian album, a lot of people were against the concept from the beginning. Just the facts.
Ppl could be won over if the concept was achieved but the content is vry surface level and the songs just aren’t “full”. The album would even be substantially better if he just did the Sunday service beefed up versions as the actual album
