nice review tho ik folks don't him but i appreciate at least that he'll stand there for an extended time and explain the s*** before giving a score

been a relief to actually see a review for this album speak about the music primarily

I actually agree with you on critics not mattering. However Kanye stans were always the ones talking about critics and using that s*** to bash others music like with Drake. So now it’s funny to see the U turn,

They’re also just being plain delusional with this “every single critic is giving it a bad score because the controversial names associated” nonsense. This album is nearly 2 hours and a good 1 hour is filler. There’s no way in any reality this s*** deserved nice acclaim. Especially once you factor in the massive hype — the same ones saying Views/Scorpion were just barely decent but disappointing because the massive hype are now hush with this. We sat through weeks of concerts and teasing for this s*** that isn’t even a top 7 Kanye album.

Drake about to upstage Kanye by making his entire album filler for his next album

The bloated thing also pisses me off. Not because it isn't true (maybe the album would be better if it were tighter, I don't know), but because not a single review is distinguishing the album proper (the first 23 tracks) from the bonus tracks. That's ridiculous and quite frankly never how it worked in criticism in the 90s or 2000s. When a classic album re-releases and has bonus tracks attached, are those suddenly part of the album? No! Bonus tracks are bonus tracks. These critics are acting as though Kanye is forcing them to listen to a 108 minute album when it's really only 85 minutes. They're weirdly upset that there's a few extra songs to listen to when in fact it's just a generous offering to the fans (and another behind the scenes reflection of the abundance of material he was working with) that should not affect how you review the actual album.

Ill even go further and say any review that didnt even mention (or notice) the fact that the n-word is non-existent on it is hack-ish

People s***ting on Fantano when he's actually talking about the music

His review was logical and great. I don't agree with him and the "negatives" he pointed out, but remember that he gave Yeezus and MBDTF low scores, so I was expecting a 7.

I hope so, but Allmusic has such a rocky track record with Kanye.

    3/5 from AllMusic

shame I pretty much agree with them on most except for 808s

This is a fantastic piece. Scope, reason and contemplative

I think people can be dissapointed in the fact that Kanye doesn't grow up, you can hear it in positive key from his friends, but when dude makes an album with an accent on God, and names it after his mother, you expect more decency then asking a dude who is accused of rape and abuse to sit on your porch.
It's like what's even the point?

Interesting that Hypebeast includes Never Abandon Your Family in their review of the actual album. I've come to wish that was still on the album as it would make even more sense of the so-called hauntingly unfinished quality of Donda, while of course adding another Donda West monologue.

"On “Never Abandon Your Family,” Ye’s brooding vocals “I’m losing my family, my family” are met with a sample of Donda proclaiming “no matter what, never abandon your family.”"
