Anything over 300k is exceptional for an artist nearing the end of their 2nd decade. It's 18 years since Through the Wire, 20+ since his major breakthrough as a producer.

The longer tracklist does help, but tbf most of the big hip hop albums in recent years have had really long tracklists. Really it shows he was a bit closer to the biggest artists than we thought when he was doing 7 songs and they were doing 20+ songs.

300k+ would prove he's still at the top of hip hop, even if people think he's musically fading.

After the 1st week everybody numbers go down anyways

It's a superstar artist so 1st week it's a bunch of casuals then it starts dropping to your core fanbase and if you're a fan of Ye you're not gonna stop listening to the album just because someone else is dropping

I love Nas but he puts his albums out on time and can't get close to 100k.

If he put something out on a Sunday, with this many tracks he wouldn't get close to these numbers.

Idk what Jay sells in 2021, it's been years. He might be able to match Ye though. Wayne could with a long Carter album maybe. Em could. But it's still a small group.

And Ye's albums are always late, extra 2 days doesn't let him do Drake and Kendrick numbers, but it probably gets him over 400

of course. but Kanye has done that too. Plenty of projects he's worked on had short tracklists like Yeezus, Grad, 808s, Jesus is King, Be, Daytona, KSG and Ye.

But this a sales thread and I was just pointing out, that it's not really fair to compare 7 track albums to the sales of people putting out 20+ songs on their albums. Now Ye has done something more similar to current artists, it's easier to compare him again.

To me, Drake will probably crush Ye in sales. But Drake does that to everyone, so there's no way that this isn't a W that puts him back in the top of the hip hop conversation.

I think the only knock on Ye now is that he probably won't have a clear hit or single from this, and that people think the music has taken a quality dip since 2016. Which I think is true tbh, but Donda still has a lot of high quality music on it. We just take it for granted that Kanye should be Pablo quality or higher or it's not good. There's no way believe what I say or off the grid or Jesus lord aren't well executed songs

kanye could beaten clb if he released on friday and done the bundle merch that some artists been doing. What artists been doing after the ban of merch with digital copy is that people been doing merch + physical bundle which all loaded ready for release. Hasley is doing 75k physical cause of this

I don't think he could beat CLB with 2 extra days, I just think Drake is more popular right now tbh. But if he's 2 decades in and in a position where people more popular than him are a few names like Drake or Kendrick, that's very impressive.

I wonder what demographics mostly stream Kanye, because he's consistently one of the most streamed artists based on back catalogue alone.

if kanye has vinyls and cds ready with some good merch he selling 200k physical + 300k streaming number. He obviously ain't out streaming drake but i honestly surprised the numbers his doing. JIK only has done 700mill spotify streams and its been out for nearly 2 years

I think the way he's done this helps. the rollout and also the features. I think people want the big blockbuster Kanye album and rollout. If he does ones more like Pablo and Donda he'll get good numbers. Hoping for a bit more Pablo vibe next time as had more solo moments on it.

But his vocals are good on this album, like on Off the Grid I was surprised how easily he fit on drill. Sounds way more natural than drake and headie or Nas and Fivio. If he wants to it feels like there's still a lot more he could achieve musically career wise, as long as he goes big when making albums.

Yeah I get why people stream it, but I more mean do we think it's the younger hip hop fans who give him those strong streaming numbers outside of album eras? Or more people who were teenagers when Dropout to Throne came out?
