There’s nothing you can do about it once you recognize, this is literally psychological warfare on us that’s perpetuated by modern day minstrels & media. Because even if you are being your authentic self, i’ve heard people on this very site talk about rejecting stereotypes & not treating black culture like a monolith(what you see on social media) but i pose the issue still arises that we can’t healthily embrace our unique identities within community if we have to do it in accordance to how white people view it - especially if you’re a creative, entertainer or someone with merit you either conform to them or be treated like a minstrel for profit
And yes it goes deeper than code-switching cause that usually deals with words & body language in a workplace or “upper class” setting

The issue boils down to the reality that cultural identity can get co-opted or distorted when viewed through a lens that's alien to that culture. Whether you're a creative or an average person, you can end up feeling like you're caught between being yourself and fitting a stereotype that's been built around your identity. This isn't just an academic or theoretical concern—it has real-world impacts on how people live their lives, find opportunities, and even how they feel about themselves. It's less about political correctness and more about the practical effects of these dynamics on people's lives.
