Dre and Mel-Man hired in-house musicians, one of which being Scott Storch, to play instruments and keyboards for the album. Dre did the drums on every song, and Mel Man did keys and soud design. They hired musicians who were more talented at certain aspects of making music to carry out their vision. That is what a producer does.
