I think people who make art at this level of talent and success, are way less precious about it then people would like them to be. So much of the battle is about getting it out, and I rate a guy like drake for getting it out. There’s a lot of artists letting good ideas expire because they just overthink it. I’d say part of drakes talent is his ability to realize an idea, get it out, move on.. and do it pretty quickly for years now. And yeah, part of the dialogue is that you can’t possibly know what will connect with the audience. I think positioned against artists who HAVE to milk a project for all its worth to progress their career, that it looks like he moves on quickly.

I know SZA gonna overthink her project and drop some middies

Falling Back, Calling My Name and Tie That Binds (to name a few) sound extremely finished to you?

It’s a dance album idk why tons of instrumental breaks or repeated lines make it unfinished to you

Bro his voice is not mixed at all on Falling Back, Calling My Name has a weak break at the end (you clearly don’t listen to actual dance music so I get that this is your entry point) and Tie That Binds got some weak ass programmed Guitar on it and son has access to the best guitarists on the planet

is it milking or maximizing? If Drake knows that there has been anticipation building for an album like CLB for nearly 3 years, why would he just drop it with a weird emoji cover, no interviews, few singles, no tour? I don' t think Drake is in a position where he NEEDS those things at all but certain fans will view it as displaying a lack of investment on his part, especially with Honestly, Nevermind dropping just a few months later.

I do agree that certain artists lose momentum bc of the demo-itis thing, they just wanna keep tweaking and prodding until its 'perfect' instead of just putting out the songs that might have been truly great ideas at the time. then a lot of hype and potential listeners are gone

I just prefer him to actually drop something he’s passionate about. I cannot say that Scorpion, DLDT, CLB & HNVM were that because of how easily he breezed away from those. It just seems like he’s shooting anything just to see what sticks. It’s just my opinion though as a person that grew up on his music.

“I’m about to play you an album that means the world to me. Took us about 6-7 months to make. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, I don’t really wanna over explain it I just want to play it. It’s a bunch of music that I love.” - Drake talking about HNVM on Table for One

lol Drake & 21 were probably already at a midway point on Her Loss by the time Honestly Nevermind dropped. why else would he be not only the only traditional rap song on the album but the final track? this has all been in the works for a minute
