For everyone wondering about "political bars" the Drake and 21 cover is just a special edition of what already dropped this month.

So no article on the album ?

Wait lol is this real? So there's no Drake & 21 content in the edition at all and they just say 'X is NOT holding back' for magazine clickbait when it has no meaning or context?

And also an intentionally misleading quote is on every version, right next to someone's name and picture, but that quote isn't actually from the person?? Wtf this seems sloppy as hell

do they mean political like personally or like actual politics

hilarious if they mean it like social commentary. When compared to the people who had his spot before him Drake literally drained all the political content out of mainstream hip hop lol

I always thought it was part of his popularity, he has the content of a normal popstar compared to Jay, Ye, Pac etc. Even Wayne made Georgia Bush and would always have the odd line

Yeah drake has set the record for least political rapper ever for sure. He has like 3 lines in a massive catalogue that even remotely touch on that sphere

Guess its partly him not being American though? Not that Canadians can’t be political but hip hop and the politics it dealt with was always such an American thing

    "president doing us in"

genuinely can't remember any others lol

I think that might be part of it. if he started rapping about Canadian politics a large part of his target demo would switch off. it's helpful to internationally known American rappers that a lot of the rest of the world know who their politicians are.

That being said he spends a lot of time in the states, working with Americans. One of the most iconic 70s Canadian artists was Neil Young. He ended up writing some of the GOAT political anthems like Ohio while having hit albums that made him a global star in the US, UK etc. Ohio was actually about American politics too, but obviously his proximity to American people, culture and politics must have inspired him to write those songs.

I think y’all are putting way too much stock into that quote on the cover

Jennifer Lawrence also has a cover this month and it says the same exact thing with the quote attributed to her

I'd forgotten that one. But yeah like the other poster said it's three lines in a long career at the top of hip hop

I'm not saying that's wrong btw, it's just interesting when you compare it to older artists in a similar position to him. They'd always have a lot of lyrics around either politics and social commentary or the streets or a mix of both

in some ways it might be one of the most influential things about Drake. Because I don't think young artists even think about whether they should include bars like that. It's not a dividing line, pressure or a thing anymore for better or worse

Lol I like the Trudeau line but that's not a political line. it's just a pun on a famous name. Maybe the last one at a push
