It’s not bots faking listens that caused NLU to get to this point. If it was that simple, why wouldn’t Drake, the alleged billionaire, throw a few million to make Hot Uptown a number one hit and prove the Drake stimulus is still alive

NLU is a cultural phenomenon. Friends and family who don’t listen to Drake or Kendrick have been asking me about the beef and playing NLU. It’s an earworm and is stuck in peoples heads, even non-rap fans.

Algorithms work by predicting what songs people want to hear based on their listening habits compared to others with the same taste. If enough metal fans are putting on NLU out of curiosity, then the algorithm will start thinking NLU is of interest to metal fans and will start adding it to their upcoming songs when they hit shuffle. I get Drake songs thrown in the mix all the time, even when listening to other genres, because his music is so popular.

This angle is embarrassing for Drake. Either he’s exposing that streams can be bought, in which case his success and figures are called into question, or he’s crashing out entirely because he knows he’s cooked.
