Anyone feel like he's learned not to snap on one beat for too long in his more radio friendly songs? Probably because of our low attention spans or something, but lately he keeps most of his songs or features under 2 minutes.
I feel like the last "long" one was God's Plan. They easily could have run a beat switch after the second chorus but he was able to finish it off. Part of what made that song so good was that he had "the line" in the second half to keep it going. But originally he was going to give it to Trippie Redd and that second part wasn't part of the song.
Even Sicko Mode, although I wish we got more of the first beat/verse, it never felt like Drake was on the song that long because of Travis' verse and the beat switches. Yet he killed it and most would agree the song is memorable mostly for Drake's parts.
Money In The Grave is about 3.5 minutes but Drake is done by 1.5. Life Is Good is about 4 minutes but Drake is done his part in the first 90 seconds.
My point isn't that he's lost the ability to close out songs. I think he's found the sweet spot in what makes his songs so memorable. He is able to dominate a song with less than 2 minutes of vocals and keep us at a point where we want more and we keep playing it back because we can't get enough. He doesn't drown out his own songs, I think that's a real gift that other artists need to think about. The era of 5 minute radio singles is over, people can't stay interested long enough anymore.
Wasn’t his part on Gold Roses pretty long though? From recollection anyway
Wasn't really a radio friendly song though. I agree it was def longer but that song is more of an album cut to me.
Agree with you guys but I feel like this next album he may take the risks he avoided on Scorpion

I think he will because he's taking his time with it.
Depends on what drake you like more.... for me the catchy spaced out cadence and flow is lazy and the reason some of his songs don’t stick and last with you after the hype dies down.
His old style the songs last years with you not 6 to 12 months like now.

What risks

No facts.... just say you don’t agree.... it’s my opinion....
His old hits songs where more dense and better word play and lasted years that’s why people loved them till this day....
He got hit songs that nobody brings up that came out the last 2 years....bout 20 hits songs forgotten

If you mean old hits from 09-14 then yeah but if you’re including IYRTITL hits as well then I disagree with you

Yup. Ok I agree. You can’t even compare songs like best I ever had, headlines, etc to these tracks.
He traded in his style tbh. It’s never coming back. The best we’re gonna get is gold roses type verses
War was definitely stretched out as well like what is this thread?
I mean radio songs
No Guidance
fair point but some stations end the song after breezy verse
Every song everyone’s mentioning is a feature... features are meant to be a short part...
