drake wasnt the first surprise dropper but he def made it way more popular. he also was the first time a rapper dropped a "commercial mixtape" because iyrtitl came out on soundcloud at the same time it came out on itunes, shortly before being deleted

    Aren’t you a literal Beyoncé stan ?

Everything I said is 100% true, especially the first part. Drake is not the first artist to surprise drop

    Who did before him?

Nobody said Drake wasn’t doing beat switches before Travis. He obviously was. But the person that POPULARIZED it was Travis. The same way Kanye didn’t invent the concept of rappers singing, but 808s & Heartbreak is the album that POPULARIZED it

    That’s exposure

Like Eminem did to 50 Cent or Dr. Dre did to Eminem or 50 Cent did to The Game? Exposure is some type of influence.

Sure, but it’s not MUSICAL influence, which is what is being discussed

Which genre is surprise dropping common place now? Hip hop or r&b? We’re talking influence I thought

Surprise dropping is not really a genre-constrained thing

nah i can’t even deny that. drake was the king of soundcloud for a good minute. of course he doesn’t fit the stereotypical mold of a soundcloud rapper cus he was already big as s*** when he was using it but he took that s*** to another level way before carti/yachty/uzi era

Drake was the first to do it in hip hop which is now common place. Are you going to refute that?

come thru is a more iconic beat switch than anything travis has ever made excluding sicko mode (which drake carried)
