    UMG's statement:

“Drake, unquestionably one of the world’s most accomplished artists and with whom we’ve enjoyed a 16-year successful relationship, is being misled by his legal representatives into taking one absurd legal step after another.

In Texas last November, his counsel instituted a legal proceeding with much fanfare and bluster. On Monday, they quietly dropped the case.

In New York in January, Drake’s counsel filed a defamation lawsuit. Fearful of being sanctioned by the court for asserting false allegations, tonight they amended the complaint to withdraw them only to add more baseless allegations.

Two weeks ago, his representatives celebrated a ‘win’: the granting of a routine discovery motion. That ‘win’ will become a loss if this frivolous and reckless lawsuit is not dropped in its entirety because Drake will personally be subject to discovery as well. As the old saying goes, ‘be careful what you wish for.’

Both the Texas and New York proceedings are an affront to all artists and creative expression. Should his legal representatives senselessly keep the New York lawsuit alive, we will demonstrate that all remaining claims are without merit. It is shameful that these foolish and frivolous legal theatrics continue. They are reputationally and financially costly to Drake and have no chance of success.”

This just reads like UMG is stupid and scared. This is yet another statement they're putting out so social media can take it and run with it and this doesn't paint them in a good light. Why still threaten Drake to drop the lawsuit if you truly feel it is baseless and stupid? Why file multiple motions to withhold and deny discovery? They should be more excited than Drake for the case to head to trial so they can embarrass Drake and prove their total innocence, not still making thinly-veiled threats.

“UMG is scared and stupid your honor”

then who should people root for here

The grummy corporate music label or the unfair judicial system

I think the best choice is neither

I'm surprised by the lack of quality in the statements and legal arguments being made by a team that a +$50 billion company has picked

They are using the Jay-Z Twitter strategy, except Drake's lawyers aren't Tony Buzbee. And Jay's innocence was more obvious.

The legal field isn't easy, so it is fully understandable that people with no legal expertise don't know the scope of the law. But that also mean that they should be careful with their posts and how confident they are when they make statements and present them as facts. That isn't the case though, they are posting some embarrassingly incorrect posts and in a confident fashion despite being utterly wrong

Have a law degree and I'm currently practicing. Using posts made by random people on the internet as evidence in a defamation lawsuit involving a celebrity is stupid af

Drake stans whole worldview will shatter if it’s revealed that his numbers are fabricated as well

For some reason it’s farfetched for some of them that a music label with as much leverage and power as UMG would use their power to boost the profile, reach and success of the artist they made a $400 million dollar investment in.
