That shouldn’t be a joke
Why Kendrick got so many white people behind him though?
music quality aside, Kendrick represents what the industry and America writ large want to paint as the barometer for a black intellectual and the perfect “rebellious” hip hop artist that captures the original spirit of hip hop origins while not being to “ghetto” like a lot of the newer gen rappers
he makes amazing music that can portray the grime reality of growing up in the worst aspects as a colonized people within the imperialist empire, but ultimately Kendrick’s music doesn’t quite strike directly at the heart of the matter, capitalism, or rather he paints it as something that is due to some inherent failing of the “system” that won’t work due to the individual racist notions of the white man, and the solution is the individual self-escape into discovery or self-indulgence into the excesses of capitalism (money, women, fashion, cars)
@Scratchin_Bandit made a good thread on the latter part. And of course that final part isn’t exclusive to Kendrick but again his story-crafting and pen is on another level.
If Kendrick spoke out against Palestine all of this would get snatched away in a heartbeat and he’d be blackballed
cringe
Drake, the Canadian rapper?
Conan is the goat no slander here
This is different, Kendrick got the whitest white dudes out there commenting on rap beef lol. It feels wrong
As a huge Drake fan it’s literally just commentators commenting on popular culture
This battle wasn’t a niche event only seen by hip hop purists it was a cultural phenomenon
Damn he taunted drake with the lawyer comment. Is drake gonna let conan talk to him like that?
i think its great that we have a guy like kendrick at the heart of culture now. Finally things are changing.
ngl I kinda thought the world at large would be over this but I guess not
I get that it was relevant again during the Grammys & Super Bowl performance, because those are at least related to Kendrick. This is just clout chasey to me
and Conan could've written something wittier to clown Drake tbh
As a huge Drake fan that’s just your attention span talking, it’s barely been a year, expect this to be a topic for at least the next 10

It’s at the level where even soccer moms and s*** know about it
Don’t worry I’m lawyered up
As a huge Drake fan I can’t believe my goat is officially a punchline

to people who follow rap, he's been at the center of the culture since 2012
the mainstream media just covers controversy more than music, because that's what generates clicks

The opp list is growing out of control

You are right “Huge Drake Fan” still feels lame though. This isn’t like the 50/Ye beef, cause that was about sales. S*** between Kendrick/Drake is pretty personal at this point.
Drake lost
These celebrities clout chasing this s*** are weird. All these mfs on flight logs.
Conan was in the Epstein logs?

As a huge Drake fan this is more similar to Hov/Nas which also didn’t simmer down a year later, this moment is the pinnacle until we get another one
all birdman had to do was buy the neptunes a pizza
Conan was in the Epstein logs?
If he aint i guarantee its one degree of separation between him and somebody he's associated with. Him and Tom Hanks are real friends.
I didn't really see this as a dig at Drake though. More like a dig at Kendrick running that narrative into the ground. Kinda furthering the point that the biggest moments of his career will be aligned with Drake lol but that's just my opinion.
