I think NWTS and Take Care are the best and the main reason is 40’s production and musicality of the albums being so high level and ambitious, along with the emotion that both drake and the music give. These projects alone cement 40 as one of the greatest producers in hip hop
I personally don’t care as much about IYRT because I like melody and emotion more than bangers but I see why people like it, I don’t rate it high like that though personally. This is where the 40 sound starts not being as present
I think his hunger and creativity and excitement declined for Views and Scorpion especially. For me it felt like the melodies and songs were less thought out, perhaps more off the top of the head one take type things, and the beats lost all the extra musicality and emotion that made Take Care and NWTS. These albums felt more half baked and felt like 40 was contributing less and less, there was no more of that classic sound even though there were still flashes
For me, CLB in some ways was a return to form and much better than Views or Scorpion. Some of that musical ambition came back and many songs have that classic sound and emotion to them, more live instrumentation and more song structure, better hooks but I understood why people didn’t love it, because there was some misses and some silly stuff and it was long, but I was happy with a step in the right direction.
And now to this newest one, this went all the way in with that musicality and production level and actually sounds like a 40 produced drake album again. And drake’s vocals aren’t as dry and boring as they were on projects like Views and Scorpion, the melodies are much brighter and his high notes and vocal clarity are better. A lot of unexpected choices in the production and structures make this easily the most experimental work I’m talking about in this post. And just an overall very interesting listen that doesn’t feel like autopilot to me
FATD isn’t as good as Take Care or NWTS but it’s better than Views, Scorpion and CLB to me for these reasons.
I’m not mad at this take at all. I just can’t see where the musicality is throughout the entire thing. There’s moments like Tried Our Best, First Person Shooter, and Bahamas Promises but overall I feel the same way you felt with Views and Scorpion. I think HNVM and Her Loss were a return to form for me that highlighted those elements from OG 40 prod and IYRTITL level of confidence respectively.
i’ve listened to the new joint 3 times all the way through and it just doesn’t move me as much honestly. I do appreciate you sharing this though
I know you didn't ask me but I view those first 3 as his peak, Views / More Life / Scorpion as a dip but also his most successful era, and then DLDT / CLB / HNVM / For All The Dogs as a more interesting run where he's having fun instead of it being hit focused with Views / Scorpion
His 2020s era has had less of a focus on hits and just more having fun with it, even down to the coverarts
People hate CLB but it's fun imo and better than the usual "Drake on the cover" artwork
CLB has great highs and horrible lows but at least the highs on there are some of his best yet but this one doesn’t have that aside from like 3 songs imo
Ok? what's your point. Relationships end. He divorced his middle eastern wife before dating Rihanna. It's clear that their relationship wasn't some fetish like you're trying to imply. You a weirdo bro
You’re delusional to think a person who owns Toyota is gonna end up with a singer lmfaooo
Your coveted riri got booted

I agree but I def wanna give it more listens
This seems more like a pack of songs which makes sense cause he was making alot of it on tour
CLB gets a lot of hate though and it's mainly for like 3 - 4 songs on the tracklist

I like only 8 joints on CLB but the ones I like I do find myself playing a lot. I’m going to let this new one breathe though and come back to it more down the line

If you think it’s worth repeat listens, I bet some of the musical elements will emerge more over time. My go to example is probably the most generic track on here is the Yeat song, and it begins with this crazy synth jazz piano female vocal trumpet intro that feels straight off a Kanye/Kendrick album or something. The musical textures and attention to detail on that less than one minute of music is probably more thought out than the entirety of Views/Scorpion lol
There’s layers and instrumentation like this all over. And very interesting structures
I have a 14 song version of CLB thats legitimately one of his best albums
Concise albums vs More music will always be an interesting discussion in the streaming era

Yeah that’s one of the moments I love. The intro to that reminds me of some massive attack songs I’ve been listening to lately. Again it’s like I love everything about that song except for Drake on it lol

He spent 3 years of his life with her, he clearly wasn't just doing it for a fling lol. Again, relationships end. Most of them don't last. You said he's with a girl from his country now but that's not true, he divorced that woman before dating Rihanna. My point is that Rihanna is a very sought after woman. Argue with a wall

Massive attack is a great connection for that
What do you think of Amen and the opener, you mentioned some highs but those have crazy musicality/production details too
You know one thing that really sets it apart from other drake albums? Those dog interludes and s*** lol. Teezo singing and then a radio skit of snoop, then later radio interludes by George Clinton and Sade. I know it’s not that crazy or deep conceptually but this some s*** drake never does. Another aspect of the album where it felt like he was finally taking album cues from the Tylers and Kendrick’s of the world so I personally appreciated that layer as well

And he dated Naomi cambell before that
Track record looking kinda fetishy

Do you know the meaning of "fetish"?
Britney Spears is hitting that s***
off topic but I would love Drake & Britney to collab
2 of my favorites of all time
as much as I fw his current output, I wonder what Drake would've sounded like in the 2000s over some Prime Neptunes, Timbaland, Dr, Dre, Cool & Dre production
I know you ain’t black lol
Nah I know you one of those black people that worry bout interracial relationships. Imma let u rock tho weirdo

Yeah these albums lowkey need the playlist treatment but I don’t think that makes them completely bad either
As I get to know the album more and see people’s playlists, I might have to start making my ideal version of this
What’s your CLB tracklist

Goat album idea but he has problems with Tim and the Neptunes so it would never happen lol
Britney probably would sound tragic today I’m assuming
I know you ain’t black lol
I tried telling him earlier that some of them on this site act like white women
I’d be in for Drake x Britney x Cool and Dre, I would definitely pretend to like that song

Drake has so many artist he could call on for an album
Yet he gives us this

Britney got some decently cool songs from her last album (2016)
not on the level of her PEAK but not tragic
