Kendrick has made multiple attempts at appealing to the mainstream, are you stupid with this post? What were DAMN, the Black Panther soundtrack and GNX made to appeal to? What were the over half a dozen pop collabs meant to appeal to? Why do y'all have this idea that Kendrick isn't a pop star or doesn't have those aspirations?

I’m being no more “stupid with this post” than you are being a conceited dismissive prick with your posts.

I never said he hasn’t or doesn’t appeal to the mainstream. But if rageful jealousy of mainstream success was Kendrick’s motive, he wouldn’t have followed up his breakout debut album with a jazz infusion dense TPAB and Untitled Unmastered during the prime of his career He also wouldn’t have released MMTBS as his long awaited “comeback” album. He would’ve showed consistent and frequent attempts of commercial success and would’ve been to do the stupid extra s*** many do to stay in the spotlight. It just makes no sense.

Nigga, stop. You're the one not making sense. Kendrick has clearly proven that he wants his art to do more than just entertain, which is why he doesn't just make albums geared towards the charts. He finds a way to strike a balance. We all understand that.

You're acting like he has never had any mainstream aspirations and that's what I call bullshit on. Kendrick has done more to appeal to the mainstream than even Cole has, which is why he's more commercially successful than Cole.

And that's all that matters. Him having a TPAB or MMATBS in his catalog doesn't make him any less of a popstar than Drake. Even Drake hasn't worked with as many pop singers as Kendrick has so miss me with that s***.

    Can’t even hide my smile.

  • Anyways, enough of the Kendrick talk.

    Let's go, let's go!

That ain’t gonna happen. Kendrick has made it clear that he doesn’t respect Drake as a rapper because of the ghostwriting s***.

This is bs considering he put snoop on his top 3 rappers oat after snoop said multiple times he lets the lil homies ghostwrite for him and Kendrick pens for baby keem and jay rock

nah on god u speaking facts but Oh yes, I'm not saying Kendrick suddenly started hating on Drake. Man, look, Drake had 40 make a beat and send it to Kendrick so he could have an interlude on Take Care where Kendrick rapped about absolutely anything. Kendrick chose to rap about his feelings of inadequacy about Drake's position in the game and how much further ahead Drake was than him at that point in their respective careers. He gets points for honesty but that reveals the dynamic that's always existed between them. On Drake's end, he saw Kendrick as the homie who he thought was f***ing talented and who he wanted to bring a shine on any which way he could at that point, which is why he gave him an interlude on Take Care, took him on tour and gave him F***in' Problems for GKMC.

It wasn't as a way to "son" Kendrick. It was out of genuine love for another artist he respected. You don't do that much good for someone you hate.

Again, even going back as far as 2014 OVO Fest, there's footage of Drake shouting out Kendrick, calling him talented as f*** and wishing him the best. Drake has only ever shown love to niggas and wanted to see everyone do well. That's why he'd give out so many of his own hits to these niggas. No one doing that is doing it for themselves lol.

I'm not trying to say Drake is perfect or anything but people expecting him not to feel a way about people he helped out on multiple levels, switching on him out of the blue (because everyone keeps assuming Drake must have done something to deserve what happened to him but no one will come out and say what Drake did to them), is ridiculous. He's also a human being and he has every run to never f*** with them ever again and to never stop throwing shots at them.

If someone legit helped me out at points in my life and career when I desperately needed it, if we have a falling out, I won't ever talk bad about them or go join up with someone to go at them. Doesn't mean I have to keep f***ing with them. We can stop being cool but that's where it'll end for me. I guess everyone is built different.

This honestly what gives me credence to the maybe debunked poster theory. I'm thinking there has to be some resentment that transpired before. Looking at everything objectively

Whether it be a poster or any other conduit

Drakes last single he promoted was Search and destroy...

that debuted with 236 points and was seen as a flop at the time

this is gonna debut with 135 points
    the boy is finished

Song is getting less streams per day already than a certain LA rapper got on the 5th most popular song on his latest album a MONTH after it came out

"more than even Cole" like he's not on the same s*** as Kendrick, making some commercially appealing music and disappearing from the public eye for years at a time between albums Following FHD up with 4YEO is pretty much the same as dropping TPAB after GKMC

If you want to see someone who cares about appealing to numbers, Drake is right there with his bloated discography. Travis is right there with his bundle gimmicks (that gap to Utopia would not have been as long if not for Astroworld Festival)

Nobody's saying Kendrick doesn't care about numbers at all. But he's clearly made moves that he wouldn't have made if he prioritised appealing to a mainstream audience

    Lemme start this by saying:

I LIKE THE SONG. I THINK “WHAT DID I MISS” IS A GREAT AND SUPER CATCHY SINGLE. THIS IS NOT HATE. THE COMMERCIAL PERFORMANCE OF THE SONG HAS NO BEARINGS ON MY OPINION OF ITS QUALITY.

But the commercial performance for this track (so far) is very odd to say the least. Yeah it wasn’t promoted a ton and you can make the caveat that it missed a day of tracking, but 134 points for a new Drake single (that’s being touted as the lead single to a new album) is very strange.

I’m not saying he’s done or anything crazy like that, but if this is a sign of what the commercial performance of Iceman will be, it’s not looking good
