i'm crine @ how drake dropped a 25 song double album full of billboard hits and then a quiet album of nothing but b sides and both got s***ted on

  • This is a negative thread

Just wanted to make a thread stating that regardless of what Drake does it’ll always be seen as a failure/has critics. That’s honestly part of being the GOAT.

If CLB were to be an album that gets a lot of playtime, running the charts, all “casuals” enjoy it, people will complain that he just makes radio hits, he lost his artistic ability, is a popstar, etc.

If CLB were to be an album that is lyrical, contains great story telling, and whatever people consider “great.” People will say it lacked radio time, isn’t running the the top 100, he lost his touch, etc.

Moral of the story is regardless of the outcome CLB/Drake will be criticized by “connoisseurs”/KTT. Stop arguing with these people, let this CLB era be great for you, and enjoy CLB/Drake.

    facts

i feel bad for him. he'll always get my support

I never said anything about the song, I only ever spoke about his verse. So tell me how was his verse?

If he made a more lyrical album I don’t think people will say Drake lost his touch. Nigga has the most hits out of everybody in history. Ain’t nobody passing him anytime soon either. He bought himself at least one album where it ain’t about hits at all and just about making a high quality, groundbreaking and thought provoking magnum opus.

I like drake alot but goddamn I hate that he surpassed Elvis and the Beatles with some of these trash singles. people stream anything these days and I don't know if that should equate to a single sold back in the day.

Drake is great and will always be great because he doesn’t have what @op said in his mind.

He just makes what he feels and doesn’t give af.

There shouldn’t be too much thought in good music

    This is super facts.

Drake's at a point in his career (and has been for a while), where he drops what he wants. He could drop a "rap" song with a 100 fire bars or a RNB joint with the smoothest melodies, people will always have a problem because not everyone likes both sides.

Drake will never change his formula. He literally said in his interview with Elliot and Bdot that he'll never drop that 10-11 song classic that some people want because he has a commitment to to cater to both audiences; singing fans and the rap fans.

That excuse is bullshit. Who said he has to cater to both audiences on one project? He has shown many times he is willing to do EPs, mixtapes, playlists and complication albums of his loosies.

His albums can be reserved for more pop/stadium level stuff and he could make more high quality stuff on another medium. Not to mention he had the perfect opportunity to do both on one project when he made a double album and he wasn't able to. It's just an excuse.

Yeah I'll be the first to defend Drake's chart success compared to legends because it's a different time where Drake has to compete with WAAAYYY more artists then they did because of the internet and streaming. But I always laugh when people say he would beat Hov or Ye easily in a verzuz. The boy got more hits but they definitely got more meaningful and higher quality hits. Just because Toosie Slide went number 1 don't mean it beating ANY of those guys hits.

Cringe im not looking for drake to make some bullshit conceptual album give up some slappers some r&b chunes and all around good music pls imagine what drakes career would be like if he listened to ktt nerds

I feel like people leaving their streaming on all day isn't the same as people walking to the store and buying a single back in the day

If that's even the metric they're compared by, not sure

It's not an excuse though. You can still make a classic album, with higher volume of tracks and catering to different audiences. Take Care and NWTS are prime examples of this.

In your opinion, does Drake have a classic album?

  • Jun 22, 2021

if he just follows the NWTS type formula ill be so happy

It is an excuse. He wasn't really catering to too many different audiences with Take Care and Nothing Was the Same. Most people who f*** with Drake's music come for Hip-Hop and R&B. He had a good ratio of it on Take Care and Nothing Was the Same blended the two genres extremely well. Take Care's length hurt it a bit for sure and is probably the reason that it's still debated if it's even a classic.

If You're Reading This, It's Too late was him doing one style for the majority of the record and this project is sometimes regarded as more of a classic then even Take Care to a lot of people. He should just do that more if he really feels the need to "cater to different artists". Reserve the album for more wide spread of audiences and a mixtape for the high quality s***.

You are right he can still make a classic album with higher volume of tracks and catering to different audiences. But he has tried that multiple times and it has yet to work. He can't do it and no one is asking him to. So yeah... it's an excuse.

  • Jun 22, 2021

This could be applied to any popular artist lmao

  • Jun 22, 2021

it'll get instantly trashed like almost every project he did in the past 10 years and years later people will celebrate that s*** on twitter etc

    we dont care tho

  • Jun 22, 2021

it can be a great album and get radio time at the same time, they dont have to be independent of each other

my bad. the song is not a bad song. its just a meedi track aka trash and unforgettable.

kanye & jay z have one called hater.

Pharrell has some, jeezy has alot. same tier.

  • IMO The level of quality needs to be just as good or better than TC, NWTS & IYRTITL. Thats how I look at it, if I can get that same feeling as I did when listening to those albums then CLB will be successful in MY eyes. Gonna be hard to do but I think he can still pull it off.
