I subscribe to that Eric Jackson guy’s theory lol. It’s more interesting and kinda makes sense from UMG’s perspective if the majority owner is trying to buy remaining shares low and then flip it high…potentially. That’s assuming Drake is that valuable an impact to UMG which he may be overstating but I wouldn’t know.

Labels can flip on a dime and go from being artists biggest supporters to their downfall when they want to. Artists themselves have said as much multiple times.

People really don’t understand how crazy UMG is about going after people who they feel use their music without their blessing. Not going to dox myself but I know a company who had to pay a very large sum of money to UMG because UMG said they were improperly using small slips of songs from their artists online basically.

The case never made the news and people don’t even know about it. Imagine how many of these such cases exist. But UMG was willing to suddenly ignore that for the beef
