How is this different than most music being consumed via radio in the physical era?

Or in the boombox times, people put CDs inside a player and it played music. You never saw the album as much as you do now when you look at it every time you choose a song

Because consumers would actually have to purchase the CD/Vinyl if they wanted to listen to it on their time. You’d actually own the piece of art you’re talking about.

Actually, you see it more now with things like Apple CarPlay and also the fact that every time you press play on a song on your phone, the artwork is looking directly at you

This. There’s really no way to escape it unless you’re just pressing shuffle and turning your phone off

I wonder if the reason he didn’t give the date with the cover art is it n case 40 isn’t able to finish it in time

In the physical era when you actually had to go out & purchase the record, for sure. In the streaming era, not nearly as much. Most music is played through an aux or bluetooth, you barely see it.

Purchasing records has been having a huge resurgence in the form of vinyl. Popular artists are giving fans the option of 4, 6, 8 alternate covers. It's pretty much the most discussed aspect of the music releases besides the music itself. I just don't see how the argument can be made that they're not important anymore but I could be trippin.

Then maybe it’s just me, but I haven’t purchased physical music in over a decade. It’s not as functional & I don’t care to collect. Not sure how everyone else is consuming music, but my phone is in my pocket or across the room when I’m listening. Also, if the cover is bothering me that much, I just change it.

Fair. I rarely purchase physicals either but I love album covers. For example, i listen to music while I work by using the Apple Music app on my TV. It’s connected to a sound bar and woofer so the sound is nice, but I really enjoy just seeing the album cover and color aesthetic on the big screen. I’m weird like that I guess. It is important to me

Frank Ocean will the industry shaking feature, right? Drizzy posted Blonde vinyl the other day, and Zane posted it right after talking about it apparently.

    Nope it’s blind fury feature

Frank is absolutely a big deal lol. Blonde is consistently in the Billboard 200, and there are very very few few artist in the industry who have an album that’s more anticipated than Frank’s next one

    And Gen Z LOVES Frank

He's definitely a big deal but it definitely wouldn't be as big of a deal as Zane Lowe said, that man is gagging for it

I believe you're only capable of changing the cover if you're running iTunes/AM correct? So that's one solution if that's the streaming you use. But even then, if it can become so bothersome to someone that they go through the trouble of changing it, that kinda proves the point right there.

Yeah we mostly play music on our phones and laptops now, and it's easy to not have to see the artwork (in your pocket or across the room as you do) but it's just as easy to see it too.

This is fair. I just don’t think we can make any judgments on how this album might sound or the quality of the music based on the cover. Especially given that most Drake covers are pretty basic.
