If he had simply announced the album and said he'd find the time to work and finish it before the year was over back in June, that'd have been enough to get fans excited and create hype.
He went ahead and promised it'd drop with the book. Then asked fans to scan some dogs for "updates" then started touring and proceeded to use every show on said tour to promise the release of an album he knows damn well is far from being ready to drop. Even said s*** like "dropping in two weeks" and "finally listened to my album in full for the first time today" and posted an album cover to make people feel like it was coming soon just to go back on stage and backtrack saying "you know I'm on tour" as an excuse for why it hasn't dropped yet like nigga that's all s*** YOU did that no one forced or even asked you to do.
Nigga is really a master manipulator, I see it now
Honestly just think this is a result of him being gradually lazier and lazier the more successful he's gotten. Everything post Scorpion, tours, singles, announcements, etc., has been so boring and uninspiring coming from the biggest rapper of all time. He knows that no matter what happens he'll always dominate the charts and the culture so he don't put no effort in any other stuff that fans would like
Everything dude has done with the rollout/release of this album has been stupid/unnecessary. From saying he had an album that'd be going with the book, to the whole scan the dogs daily thing to promising to drop the album in time for summer and then going on stage every night on tour to promise an album he knew was far from finished, to posting an album cover for an album he knows he won't be releasing anytime soon because according to himself, he's still working on it and now he's conveniently using being on tour as a reason for its delay. Literally, all of this s*** could have been avoided. No one asked or even demanded for an album from him this year. He's the one who jumped the gun and started that hype train only to keep delaying s***. This is even worse than what he did with Views/CLB because at least he shut up about those albums, dropped other music and didn't talk about them again till he was ready to drop. I really don't understand his thinking this time around with this album. So irresponsible.
My advice to y'all is to not expect the album anytime soon. I definitely don't see it dropping while he's on tour from what he apparently said last night.
Yeah pretty much, also I feel like he's building up the anticipation so high that if this album isn't anything but amazing, the reception will be very harsh considering he pump faked all summer long about the album dropping
I think people would care way less if he didn’t approach it the way he did. People feel entitled these days , which no one should at all. He knows what he’s doing and saying, of course trying to create hype, but part of it just starts to seem a little messy or more so not calculated which is unusual for him in some aspect
Drake has coasted his entire career off being talented enough to make good to great music consistently and having a listenership that actually supports his s***. He's always been sloppy/lazy/uncalculated as far as the release/promotion of his music goes.
There are too many examples that show how scatterbrained (mostly) him and the rest of his team are when it comes to releasing/promoting his music in the ways that best serve its success and whenever/if ever his GP support drops or stops being as consistent (because the world is so fragmented now and it's only getting worse, which is why his hits/most hits generally don't stick the way they used to), he'll start to pay for it numbers-wise. The wiser artists like Taylor Swift see the wisdom in being intentional and having a clear plan/strategy for every move musically and they'll be the ones who survive through this weird time in music culture and listening habits.
Y’all left out what he said at the end. I’m excited all over again

https://twitter.com/drakedirect_/status/1695342081555026421Still think the next two Friday's are very possible. He said "I'm not finishing it up" implying he's done recording. Noel also said he's mixing today. Yachty just said he was playing unreleased Drake

I wouldn't say the music has gotten lazy because he still tries more than most people but everything else around his music career has gotten even lazier, especially his efforts at promotion. He feels he's above it but he's really just shooting himself in the foot. Maybe he doesn't see it yet because he only focuses on first-week numbers but that doesn't really tell you the true success of an album, especially this deep in the streaming era.

That was going to happen regardless but now it'll be even much worse. Not that it matters anyways but yeah, creating unnecessary hype/anticipation for an album never works in the artist's favor because people's expectations will be set too high to ever be actually met.

yea thats what I meant by lazy, it was in terms of release considering post scorpion era

he already paid for it once in his latest release, Honestly nvm selling only 200K first week is insane considering Drake in undoubtedly the biggest rapper right now and ever

If you’ve ever loved*

Cause nobody tryna hear deep/trance house w/ weak Drake vocals
Nigga never learns. Still making more unrealistic/unnecessary promises
Imagine thinking someone who has never liked anything you've done in the past will magically like your new album when you didn't magically become a different artist? My goodness. Like just shut up till the album is ready. All this s*** so unnecessary too which is the funniest part lmao.

That only happened because of the kind of music on that album.

I really think he said if you’ve ever loved not never loved

doesn't matter, DLDT did only 200K aswell but it still had long term hits and stability
Man I pray this isn’t the first taste of seeing him lose it a little. This is the type of messy/non-sensible logistical decision-making that has sometimes historically indicated when a rapper FEELS like they are barely hanging on creatively. Not saying that the fans won’t receive it or that he’s hasn’t been making good music
I’m saying, mentally, it feels like this isn’t calculate anymore, or they are simply just getting it wrong. I think since he’s been at such a high level for his entire career, even when he did something that didn’t make sense, it would eventually.
This move just seems like a mistake, and maybe we owe it to him to have one or two of those in 15 year record breaking career

DLDT also wasn’t a full fledged album.

massive and overdrive bangers tho
I really think he said if you’ve ever loved not never loved
I hope so because that's the only that'd make sense. And even then, still unnecessary. We get it. Just shut up and focus on your tour and finishing up said album. He's legit acting like fans will rush up to smack him if he doesn't say something

Fr. It just wouldn’t make sense if he said never 😂😂 Literally everything he has said about what this album would be might as well just be thrown out the window if he said that
