whats the problem with Free Smoke lol
Terrible choice for a single.
People still don't care that much anymore, Doja's first single flopped but she came back with her second single
It wasnât a commercial hit but people had a positive reception to it, plus she dropped two more singles after it and the second one just hit #1. Drakeâs only gonna have the chance to drop one single prior to this albumâs release, unless he drops a two-pack like One Dance/Pop Style
Terrible choice for a single.
imo falling back is the most egregious mistake, as much as I love that song
A hit single can be the difference between a successful album era and an unsuccessful album era. Thankfully, Drake is established enough to not need one to have an album be successful, but still.

No disagreements there. Drake has made terrible choices with his singles across his career. There are many references.

You cry a lot
Is it crazy that I'm more excited for the Majid Jordan/Naomi Sharon single than whatever Drake will be dropping on Friday?
Just a reminder: Drake's choice for the lead single off More Life was Free Smoke
It wasn't until the song got sent as a single to radio and got rejected and everyone gravitated towards streaming Passionfruit more that he then pivoted to pushing that as the single off the album.
Drake's choice for the single off Scorpion following its release was Don't Matter to Me
Again, the album dropped and fans gravitated towards In My Feelings and he was forced to pull Don't Matter to Me from being sent to radio and push In My Feelings instead.
Drake's choice for the single off CLB was Way too Sexy
Drake's choice for the single off Honestly, Nevermind was Falling Back
For as much great music as Drake's projects tend to have, Drake himself has completely lost his touch for what the lead singles off his projects should be. He always chooses the absolute worst songs. I'm hoping he doesn't repeat the same mistake this week.
I didnât know Free Smoke was a single. I wish it got a video that wouldâve been craaaazy đĽđĽđĽ

Good song, bad choice for a single.

the only reason i think heâll make a slightly better single choice this time is that he has a bad bunny feature. even drake knows that that is the most logical single choice regardless of how the song sounds

I think Travis just proved that just having Bad Bunny on a feature donât guarantee a singleâs success

I don't want Bad Bunny on the album. He isn't a sure bet for a hit single (as this year has proven). I'd prefer it if all these collabs were on other people's albums, not Drake's albums tbh. Bad Bunny/Nicki Minaj features in 2023 don't move me.
Good song, bad choice for a single.
Wasnât even promoted as an album so I wouldnât have minded
For what the album was KMT wouldâve been fire as a single too. Went crazy in Europe

Another bad choice. Drake's US fanbase doesn't care for his UK rap songs. All his UK rap songs have flopped in the US.

More Life was for the world not close minded Americans b . They just catching up now

Yeah, but ~70% of Drake's audience is in the US. They're the ones who consume his music the most.

exception that proves the rule imo, also tbf itâs still the most streamed song on utopia

Only because it was released first. Do you know how much people have to not f*** with a song for it to perform this badly?
It dropped 11 positions the week the album dropped when every other song released as a single before an album would have gotten a boost. That's how much people didn't f*** with the song.

What other feature has Bad Bunny done that was a major hit this year?
What other feature has Bad Bunny done that was a major hit this year?
All the songs he's been on this year have debuted in the top 10 and fallen off the following week. None of his songs have stuck as even decent-sized hits this year. Maybe it's because of how massive his album was last year or maybe he's ran out of juice on the charts but a Bad Bunny feature in 2023 does not a hit make.
