Alright off a more focused second listen I think there are some great songs on here for sure. That stretch from 7969 to 8am is pure bliss for me.
Teezo probably has my favorite contributions to this album, followed by Party then Cole. Sexyy Red's hook was cool but the verse wasn't needed. The 21 song I agree could've ended or continued with the first beat before the unnecessary skit. 21 felt like he was mailing it in. The Bad Bunny song could've gone without Drake and on to Benito's next project if I'm being honest. The mixing on this album is all over the place too.
Away From Home and Polar Opposites are two great final tracks. My favorite songs on this album were mostly the R&B songs, but that's my favorite Drake along with the type of Drake on 8am.
The album opening and closing with R&B songs threw me off because I was expecting the usual starting and closing rap songs but I liked that he changed that up.
I think this album will for sure grow on me and I'll find things to like about the tracks that aren't standouts to me yet. As much as I do like this album I am glad Drake is taking a break. Give him time to get better and do other things before coming back and refocusing and giving us something great. For now, For All the Dogs is good. It felt like there was a theme or concept somewhere in there that he decided to add more songs to and bloat the album a bit.
Top 5:
8am in Charlotte (bias because I'm from Charlotte lmao)
Tried Our Best
Bahamas Promises
Away From Home
Polar Opposites
that bisexual line is gonna haunt me. how u have that line after calling people 'sissy' and 'non hetero' on the same album? drake needs to keep any lgbtqia+ thoughts to himself

7969 Santana is a bit better but the album just hasn’t been hitting tbh
