The lyrics, vocals, and production were all weak and thereâs actually plenty of instances where he did Dance better prior in his career now that I think of it lmao.
Karoake and even Show Me a Good Time basically s*** on all of HNVM. Show Me donât talk about nothing lyrically either, but the production went off and he genuinely made a fun song.

A 20 song album in 2011 from drake (take care) all sounded consistent but nowadays itâs legit a playlist of s*** thatâs better when you isolate sections of the album

He has too many yes men around him and is too far up his own ass to think half of those vocal âperformancesâ and songs shouldâve been on a Drake album.

Shouldve just dropped it as a straight rnb album way sooner after the poetry book or even marketed them together
The lighthearted earnest corniness matches the corniness of the book
Most of the rap songs are good too but doing a hnvm style thematically consistent but low stakes album wouldve set it up a lot better imo

So Iâve sat with it for a minute now and I think I can properly asses it. This album somehow simultaneously makes an argument for his least substantive work to date and his most entertaining.
I say least substantive because there is a lot of low hanging fruit here lyrically and musically and there is very little insight from a guy we would only assume has gained some wisdom in his decade and a half at the top. His refusal to delve deeper into who he is beneath the persona kinda makes it hard to connect with him.
I say most entertaining because every single track is addictive as f***. Str8 up. Every track may not be a creative spectacle but they all find their way under your skin and before you know it youâre hooked.
Drake is unhinged, blunt, and hilarious throughout, more so than weâve ever heard him imo. His flows his delivery and his different cadences are also at peak levels on this project which adds a lot of intensity. There is a sort of visceral quality to his performances on this project that is really engaging.
Although the production doesnât push any boundaries or move things forward at all it always serves as the perfect backdrop for the emotion or theme that Drake and company are attempting to tap into and overall this feels like one of his better produced projects.
Overall I like this project a lot and though I understand some of the criticisms regarding the immature subject matter I think the good far outweighs the bad.
