I’d take the 10 worst songs off of any of those albums and still take them over any other rap album of the last 5 years. Drake has never released anything worse than a 7.5.

He can’t stand that he’s 4 generations behind and Drake is still putting out #1s in 2023.

It ain’t always just about a song being good or bad though, Drake is a great artist he’s rarely dropped a song that was like unlistenable.

For me, when I’m judging a project I’m judging it as a complete body of work, that’s how I arrive at scores like 4 and 5 for CLB and Scorpion, respectively.

Do I think songs like No Friends in the Industry and The Remorse are bad songs? No, but I do find them pretty unremarkable, redundant, and run-of-the-mill for Drake standards.

Ranking something a 4 means that it’s unlistenable. If you take 20 songs that are “listenable albeit unremarkable” I don’t know how you can rank something as bad. A 40% on a test isn’t just bad, it’s a complete failure without being close to being passing. So how do you say an album full of listenable songs is a complete failure without being close to passing?

A 4 doesn’t mean it’s unlistenable at all. A 4 just means that it doesn’t totally work as a body of work.

Unlistenable is like 0-1 territory, Drake has never dropped a project that bad.

A 4 for me means that the project doesn’t work from start to finish, and there are too many redundant songs or unremarkable songs that I would’ve left off the project to make for a better listening experience.

In a vacuum, sure I might enjoy a song like You Only Live Twice or Fountains if they came on shuffle, they’re not bad songs per se, but when I’m judging the overall body of work as a whole those two songs and a handful of others bring the album down for me and detract from it being an enjoyable experience from start to finish
