I just randomly remembered this, Ak might have misunderstood but it seems in August 2019 Drake told him that something about the next album is gonna be a bit weird.

Do you guys think this was scrapped w/ CLB? between him telling Ak that + CLB there was 2 entire years so it's definitely possible

Drake also said people would hate on it like Views so I think he just meant it’d be another polarising album (which it is). In that Rap Radar interview he seemed very aware that people wanted a concise, bar-heavy album so by going against that he probably knew the reception would be mixed again, idk.

Or maybe as 2nd poster said he had a different vision at first (maybe playing right into the loverboy theme, more rnb) but then changed it due to the beef or the pushbacks
