P2J (one of the biggest Nigerian producers) gave credit to One Dance as being the song that gave afrobeats a mainstream push in America

Give it time and more people will be giving credit

I think he'd rather just have the millions he's made off of it. Yet another trendy sound he's pimped out for his own gain. It's not like he's ever ahead of the curve. He shows up fashionably late like Apple and makes it accessible to the dumbest, most superficial base possible. $$$$

and it’s trendy because of who. exactly.

I'm sure some dweeb will say rapper x or singer y did it first in 2015 / 2016

But truthfully, it's different when you're one of the 3 biggest pop stars in the world. It's a huge risk to make One Dance or Hotline Bling a lead single.

He for sure should get more credit for that. I'm going into parties where they're having full on afrobeats / dancehall segments and like...yeah, Drake did that.

Well hotline bling doesn't really have anything to do with this point

3 days later, i'm glad the site in general knows how to just give these type of inaccurate threads from people that genuinely do not like music at all dust.

  • One Dance/Controlla in 2016 was incredibly consequential.

However, Bieber’s 2015 hit song “What Do You Mean?” Got a lot of western listeners used to the Afro-pop/Afrobeats Rhythm.
