I wanted to love both, I’m a fan of both. Donda is messy and imperfect but overall such compelling and beautiful music. CLB is mainly boring. I did like a few of the adventurous moments like N2 Deep and IMY2. And You Only Live Twice breathed some energy into the record. Those three times were the only times I jeered my head up. But I was also vibing to the first two tracks and the outro had pretty pianos at the end. Most of the album outside of that is very uninteresting. Doesn’t contain any of the highs of Donda, the sonic palette is more limited, and far less interesting subject matter. Better than Views and Scorpion, but nowhere near close to So Far Gone, Take Care, Nothing was the Same, IYRTITL. I would say it’s same tier as the Future collaboration in 2015.

Clb is more of the same, while Donda is much more cohesive as an album, and has a sound that’s been pretty much perfected by Kanye in his last few albums. Kanye wins for me

That’s a great point! We’re so used to Kanye being off the deep end, people want him to make something focused and borderline boring to show that he’s still “got it” and isn’t “crazy”, rather than an artsy unhinged project. On the other hand we’re so used to Drake making BORING background music we want him to come with something artsy and new for him.
