Every time I hear people mention Drake and Joe, they act like Joe Budden washed him or something when that's far from the truth. Beef is like a war, and Drake is a 5 star general when it comes to it. He strategically played his cards right to grant him the victory over Joe. Years later, the average person only remembers how crazy Joe made himself look by releasing FOUR diss tracks which completely took the air out of his campaign against Drake. Joe went from looking like a serious threat to a petty and bitter hater that wont get off Drake's d***. Years later majority of people still hold that opinion on Joe's performance in the beef. Drake didn't even have to release a full diss track because Joe was making himself look bad. Drake's disses to Joe are also underrated. No Shopping was a flawless ether to Joe and displayed Drake's extremely high level of writing. In just four bars, he managed to completely decimate Joe Budden.
"Pump, pump, pump it up (Skrrt)"
This line skillfully foreshadows the three following bars by referencing Joe Budden's only hit song "pump it up"
"She got a good head on her, but I pump it up (Skrrt)"
Drake savagely disses Joe by admitting that he f***ed his hoe, Tahiry!
"I'm not a one hit wonder, they know all my stuff (Haan)"
This one hurts the most because it's true. Joe's entire image is pretty much based on being a one hit wonder. The fact that he lacks any other major hit songs is a running joke surrounding his name.
"You let me turn into the nigga that you almost was"
Out of all the other lines this hits the hardest. Joe had a lot of potential at the start of his career but failed to reach it. He will always be a stunted, bitter, angry man that takes his regrets out by angrily ranting on his podcasts about other people more successful than him.
Song for Song, Joe definitely bodied Drake.
Drake only got a pass because he was popular in that situation.
Drake definitely won the war because Joe turned into a d*** rider, but in terms of the lyrical battle, Joe won low diff.
Honestly I think years later the average person doesn’t even know this happened lol

You can't really compare it song for song because Drake never released a full diss track. BUT, if we're going to compare them, then Drake's disses were much more savage and personal.
All of Joe Budden's disses were old and tired. "You have ghostwriters" "you have plastic surgery" "release partys album!" It was a bunch of lame surface level insults that no one really cared about because we love Drake. We love him for being corny. And the ghostwriting s*** was already a tired point by the time Joe hopped on it.

He f***ed Joe's hoe, called him out for being a one hit wonder that never reached his full potential, and pointed out how he's a bitter hater. And at the end of the day, that's all Joe Budden is. No matter how many clever ghostwriting accusation bars Joe thinks of, he'll always be a one hit wonde
