with critics there's definitely a hard line drawn in between how they judge artists contextually. it's not really Drake specifically but more contentiously that they have no idea how to properly judge hip hop artists at all. Ice Spice's Y2K has a aggregate 65 on metacritic and SSS4U has a 55. This is mainly carried because Pitchfork gave it a 76 and SSS4U a 59. The context is pretty obvious here - most critics expected less than nothing from Ice Spice so they judged it solely on "is this mildly catchy and is it pop culture relevant". I saw Y2K trashed for the most part basically universally on social media and across the board even with actual ice spice fans. Critics actively cherry pick who they want to judge as a pop artist and which albums they want to judge in a vacuum vs who they choose to judge based on comparisons to their past work. I completely agree for example that Drake needs to be making less shallow music at this point in his career. This doesn't mean the music he's making is automatically bad though - it's fine and in fact he still really has the knack for hits (Gimme A Hug, Die Trying, Nokia, etc.). It's definitely unfair to be like "well i'm going to judge the album along the lines of how i want it to be instead of what it actually is". The inverse of this is exactly what happened with Kendrick's MMBS, where critics were all like "wow introspective album" and many people online were like "why is this not DAMN"; had the reverse of that taken place people would have slaughtered Pitchfork et al

    This is straight up facts.

Drake's music is always rated with certain expectations in mind and if those aren't met it gets a low rating.

Every Drake album is better lyrically than that Ice Spice project and probably in production and melodies as well.
But with her you also have a bit of that 'we need to support feminist artists (especially in Hip Hop)' and she automatically gets +10 to 15 points added.

Future and other rap artists sound way more similar to previous projects in terms of lyrics and production but get better reviews.

I can't understand how you can give Take Care / NWTS a score over 80 and then give CLB, FATD or $$$4U such low scores.
The level in lyrical skills, production and melodies is not that much different and maybe even better in some aspects.

I know Trav is gonna be there for WWE, but there’s honestly a non zero chance that Drake appears with him (unless they have some beef related to THE BEEF but afaik Trav has been more or less a neutral party)

Don't expect Drake to show up for any rapper in the near future. He isn't cool with any of them niggas like that and he's got other s*** to worry about that being buddy buddy with them.
