the uk govt and police really limit the ability to drill as a non-violent genre when they take everything down and stop them from putting on shows

drill could be a way for rappers to get out of their situation, but since it is extremely difficult to make good money on it they have to go back to trapping

then if someone distances themselves from drill, they get clowned for not being active

you're right, i doubt this will end anytime soon and it's sad

UKdrill is one of the last frontiers of realistic music which attracts a very wide, but specific type of audience and artist. Cant even lie, the flourishing of the genre has only furthered the destruction of potential change for artist who embody their music. Like many predominantly honest yet damaging forms of (black) culture and media, It will face (and is undergoing) a seismic shift in honest artist, more emphasis on structure (wordplay, lyricism, storytelling) and eventual gentrification. The fascination of lore in ukdrill, which adds a personal touch & conflicting backdrop for the real time aspect of music, is not everything. Conflicts showcased on another cancer for the genre (social media) attract and fascinate a toxic audience who blur the line between reality and fiction. Artist feel the pressure of fans & those "fans" love to encourage bad decision for outcomes they wont face because they experience it through a mirage. Trident don't even have to do anything most of the time, yet continuously work overtime because of public pressure and ugly statistics. Its a war on many fronts... and ngl its not looking good for niggas out here.

Even after the censoring, imprisonment and eventual take down of every artist who's "real", it wont stop. For artist, its essentially a meat grinder pipeline for unwanted attention and self snitching which most of the time results in prison or death, but its not the cause (you would be surprised how many people genuinely think this). New generations are born everyday, & until the root cause of the social & economic issues which are responsible for the existence of the lifestyle are dealt with, it will always exist in some form. D****, knife crime & poverty existed way before 150 ever dropped which is a fact a lot of kids who don't know this lifestyle outside the music don't care about. For them its about the now, the next pack, scoreboards, trends and banter with friends. UKdrill is the predecessor to grime with a very different audience who demand much more.

The music for me in itself is one of my personal vices. It's so raw, conflicting, yet rarely too alienating to kill personal enjoyment. Discussing it is interesting, but I would never egg on the very toxic side of the genre. The sad thing is that the people who needed a way out of the trap, most probably wont get to see it. Instead the authenticity will be blurred. I hope groups like HS, Z2, 7th, 3x3, NPK etc can move away from street s*** and flourish as artist cause theres so much talent that goes to waste. The potential of money to be made will be utilised by artist like Russ, 1011 etc who aren't on it the way the few (but many more) groups i mentioned above are. Ukdrill is very competitive in terms of flows and song structure (an aspect very underappreciated cause niggas too busy with the f***ery to appreciate the art) and its personal authenticity shows in artist who push the sonic envelop. American artist in contrast, have a wider audience, market, more avenues to maneuver through & higher odd's to move out of bad situations. The UK is not the same & especially not London. Niggas need to be smarter & evolve as artist to survive the purge, if they even care to. All of that being said, 3mizz

agree on everything you said, s***'s really f***ed out here

free mizzy though, can't wait for the music when he gets out. I'm just hoping it still has that drill sound.

Old heads about to mention 2012 drill

The only drill scene that matter

The way people dismiss Chicago Drill ( AKA the place where the term originated) is wild to me. Literally every shocking thing these UK rappers do or say was done in like 2013 already

The Chicago Drill scene literally died because so many rappers got killed or locked up. I dont see that happening in London ( not saying its not bad out there or that black misery is a competition)

    Please say UK drill
