How? Honestly it might be the mix but I just always hated how his verses sound on Over My Dead Body. I get that it’s an unpopular opinion but it’s not a troll. I never held that song the way most people do

i get where you're coming from with the mix. i did always feel like it was pretty jarring, but in a way it's a crazy contrast that actually represents drake as an artist in a way. some of the most beautiful downtempo production, a gorgeous hook, and then out of nowhere this memphis soundin ass nigga start barring out. there was nothing like that at the time, it sounded genuinely kind of crazy and innovative that way. it's grown on me

Amazing song but u fr taking this over Come thru, jungle, marvins room, etc. ?

It clashes with them is my point and they’re over a decade apart

And how does his modern style of punchlines not represent him as an artist? Respect for getting my point but idk man. Even a song like Girls Want Girls I always felt like the artistic statement was so obvious that I was never able to cringe at it

I think people who hate similes and wordplay are ruining rap discourse.

Imagine this thread about Carter 3 “Wayne spamming similes, I’m rare like Mr clean with hair? Really? cringe”

i mean they were corny back then but he was young and had charisma in his delivery

  • JeffersonSteelflex

He’s doing the wayne s*** without the charisma and exciting delivery

Drake and OVO don't get enough credit for their use of consonance and dissonance (the jarring-ness in parts of songs) being really influential.

You saw many other R&B / rap people playing with jarring music elements after them.

It can be a hate or love element for people of OVO music. Smiley is a prime example of this lol

I can tell many of y'all are not early Drake fans and did not live through the YMCMB era lol. Drake had similes galore back then because that and the bar / noun punch line rapping was their signature.

I think he is just playing around creatively and gets tired of rapping the same way.

It comes and goes how much he uses them. The next album, he might be back to not using them that much at all again.

And folks thought it was annoying back then too bro ludacris a hometown hero we all clowned BALLOONS!

    Yall will always find something

Drake gives a focused full rap album with age appropriate content like yall supposedly wanted but now it’s the similes and the beat switches that’s the problem. Riiiiight

It’s because these people hate the person and don’t give af what he puts out. They’re gonna find something to b**** about no matter what
