The pop landscape changed from 2022 to 2023
Dance music was killing it in the beginning of this decade, but there’s a clear shift now towards more “slow”, folk-ish type of music with guitars and stuff
Zach Bryan, Noah Kahan, Kacey Musgraves (outselling JT, can you believe?), Cowboy Carter, Mitski’s My Love Mine All Mine, Hozier, Benson Boone’s Beautiful Things, etc.
Her team was openly saying they wanted this era to be the biggest of the year and bigger than Future Nostalgia, but I can’t see this happening at this point
Is the problem Dua or KP
Parker's a great producer, he's doing what he can for these songs.
Dua's not interested in doing anything new or unique, she's gonna ride this generic pop style she helped kickstart for this decade until she can't anymore.
All of these songs could've been on Future Nostalgia, and all of those songs could've been off her previous work. It's all so safe.

It’s just wild she talked up how much work she put into the album and how long the break between albums was for this to be the result
No real sticky hooks, meh melody’s. Houdini is the best so far but I’m definitely feeling let down. I literally cannot remember what the second single sounds like. Was hoping this moment would be bigger for both of them with the way she had talked it up.

I'm in the minority here who thought Future Nostalgia was nothing special.
IIRC, she worked with Nile Rodgers for a bit before that album and then chose to not use any of their material together because it was too different to what she wanted. Seems to me that she's very keyed into not rocking the boat here with how much success she's receiving from the previous album (and her Barbie song).
She's got so much potential, she's hot af, she has a great voice and presentation, she's clearly an excellent and talented performer. The actual art she's putting out I do not see being remembered for very long if she doesn't shake it up somehow though. It's all "been there done that" as soon as it releases in my opinion.

FN was impressive to me only bc I expected worse. But yeah seems she’s okay with making bland music that she hyped up as more than it is. Just sucks bc the way she spoke about the album I thought we were really about to get an era and solidify as her someone who moves the needle as far as what pop would sound like. I wanted KP to hit his super producer stride.
I expected too much that my own fault, but also who knows the deep cuts could be better than the singles
I'm a Daft Punk, disco, Tame Impala, 70's music nut. I want to like this.
She just sounds like she’s doing cosplay over tame Impala type beats rather than sounding comfortable on them.
Tomorrow by Kali is a good example of how to sound natural on his production

Theres nothing to like
Honestly forgot what this sounds like already

can you direct me to where her label said that they wanted this era to be bigger than FN?

Did you like No Angels and F***ing Up the disco by JT?

Full quote: “We want Dua’s campaigns to be long campaigns. We love day one success, but it’s not a North Star. We want her songs to be everywhere. We want her songs to be the finales of huge stadium shows. We want her songs to be number one radio records in multiple territories. We want her songs to go on and have viral moments. We want her songs to be sung at festivals. A successful Dua campaign is one that lasts a couple of years or more. We want more diamond records. We want streams of two billion plus. We want her to be the most streamed artist in the world.”
they didn’t actually mention FN, but they are expecting this album to massive and bigger
I knew they were setting her up with this when I first saw this tweet in November
