I like SRS style, Feet of Clay felt like it doubled down on that s*** and tried to double down. I still think some of the best songs of the year were on that EP (el toro combo meal, cookies)
Made a home outta house, lotta closet room
Bones stackin' like dominoes
Catacombs, after the glow, the battle carry on
Get all that malice out your soul, the efficacy strong
I finish what I start, the funeral was hella long
I fell asleep, the effigy was short
My effervescence lost, but not entirely, I shrug the venom off
Kept a tiny piece for times we in the war
Ghost is not that good
But the sample is sweet
Finally Came back and listened to this the whole way through.
Couple pages back I said he mastered brevity on IDLS and SRS but here it’s like a regression. In pursuit of that brevity here it came at the expense of substance to the rhymes. Yes there’s rhyme schemes and entendres but it’s not as personal as SRS or IDLS.
Also the delivery was too lethargic for me on some of the tracks, whole world is an exception tho.
I respect earl for trying something different and at the end of the day he has mentioned music is his outlet to sort his life out, so I can’t be too critical of his wish to express his current emotional mind state.
Haters will hate but this project is more relevant this year than last
FEET OF CLAY - "The phrase comes from the Old Testament (Dan.2:31-32). There the Hebrew captain Daniel interprets a dream for Nebuchadnezzar, founder of the new Babylonian Empire. Nebuchadnezzar had dreamed of a giant idol with golden head, silver arms and chest, brass thighs and body, and iron legs. Only the feet of this image, compounded of iron and potter's clay, weren't made wholly of metal. Daniel told Nebuchadnezzar that the clay feet of the figure made it vulnerable, that it prophesized the breaking apart of his empire.
