He won the presidency as a third party candidate, thus ending decades of a corrupt two-party system, and he eliminated the gang problem in El Salvador; boosting tourism and safety as a result.

No shock that he has a lot of fans in El Salvador and abroad.

Go back further than 5 years. For the past 20 years El Salvador has had a gang problem and previous presidents have tried many things to fix it to no success.

By the time Bukele enacted State of Exception, the people were well and truly fed up of the gang problem, that this solution has been extremely popular.

Bitcoin on the other hand was very interesting because no other country has done what Bukele proposed by make it legal tender. We can see now that this has not caught on with the local population, but only with crypto bros abroad.
