Cool s*** from reddit:
Knowing that the Ashina Clan was a real thing, I decided to do some research myself just to see how much does Sekiro's version of the Ashina clan parallel with it's real life counterpart. Fortunately I had the pleasure of being able to speak with a very nice fellow who could speak and read Japanese fluently and he was able to translate these documents from a Japanese history book... And my god...
I am amazed by almost how much Miyazaki and Fromsoftware managed to stay true to the history of the Sengoku Period despite taking creative liberties. Here are some of the few highlights...
-The Ashina (蘆名氏) clan does exist in history as one of the daimyos based in north-eastern Japan. Isshin is based on Ashina Moriuji (芦名 盛氏), and the samurai general, Shuzen Tamura who was slain by Isshin in the intro is inspired by the Tamura Clan (田村氏), and he could be loosely inspired by Tamura Takaaki (田村崇顕,)--- the conflict between the Ashina and Tamura clan did exist in history.
-As for Genichiro, he could be inspired by Ashina Moritaka (蘆名 盛隆), adopted by Ashina Morioki to continue the family line. That's why Genichiro is defending the Ashina clan at all cost. However eventually in 1584, he was assassinated at the hands of Ōba Sanzaemon (大庭 三左衛門) at the age of 22 or 23.
-The Hirata clan(平田氏)does exist in history and is one of the four clans (蘆名四天) that serves the Ashina Clan.
-All the elite bosses, especially those samurai generals are inspired by the retainers of the Ashina Clan, and you can easily tell by looking at their family names, like Yamauchi (山内) and Kawarada (河原田).
-The Ashina domain is actually inspired by the Ashina clan (蘆名氏) in history and the Ashihara no Nakatsukuni (葦原中国) which is the word for Japan in Japanese mythology, which explains why there are mythology elements in game.
-The rebellion of taking back the domain does exist in Ashina clan's history.
-The invasion in late game could be an amalgamation the events of the Siege of Kurokawa and Battle of Suriagehara military conflict between the Date and Ashina clan, led by Date Masamune and Ashina Yoshihiro respectively. And those red armored samurais? could be inspired by the units, led by Ii Naomasa (井伊 直政), one of Tokugawa Ieyasu's prized generals besides Honda Tadakatsu from the real history.

Dark Souls 1 is a horrible entry for newcomers imo if we speaking From Soft because all of their contemporary games (Bloodborne, DS3, Sekiro & from the looks ER) have been much more fluent, polished and fast paced compared to DS1
Sure, its the real entry point of Soulsborne/like games (fully disrespecting Demons Souls bc most bosses were gimmick bosses) but as someone who got into their work later and isn’t blinded by nostalgia, i can confidently say i hold both BB & DS3 in a much higher regard
DS1 suffers from feeling clunky, being that much more unwelcoming to new players and half of the boss roster sucking ass (which to me is supposed to be the main attraction in these games)
THANK U. ds1 was obviously the pioneer but it rly does only get worse w/ every release of a new from game.
they’re so much more refined now that i had a v hard time getting into ds1 because i played every other installment before
How?
bait him into doing his jumping strike move by keeping a distance and running around the arena.
once he does this move you can get in close and get off a free charged R1
repeat until dead

I remember the first time I fought Lady Butterfly I just kept running around and slashing her in the back Dark Souls style
DS1 still the best game imo
Yeah I agree Bloodborne is still the best Fromsoft game

There isn’t even any point in newcomers playing ds1 or ds2
They’ve been working on this since they finished DS3 DLC btw, we’re in for something special

Hard disagree on this, everybody should play ds1. It’s aged but the level design is still nearly unparalleled and the combat is still fun, majority of bosses are great, atmosphere is great
Combat has improved in the newer games but not a single fromsoft game can hold a candle to DS1 level design
